I think that's a little unfair Dutchy. I did preface my comments by stating I didn't want it to sound like I'm having a go because we lost. I think the umpires need to be made accountable. It happens to reguarly.

about 3-4 years ago I decided not to go on about umpires anymore and Im better for it, believe me...at the footy I still have a yell and complain but 5 seconds later its gone and move to the next contest...make peace with yourself and do the same, youll enjoy the footy more

Point taken mate. I generally don't take it too seriously but today irirtated me. I standby the fact the umpiring did not directly affect the result of today's game.

Fair call ehl - I apologise for my bundy fuelled attempt at sarcasm. Funny game today a real arm wrestle by two sides not playing anywhere near their best I would say North were about 80 percent and the Eagles 75 percent. I still think the Eagles and North will make up the top 3 at the end of the minor round (well I hope at least North do). Take nothing away from Sturt but I think they are playing above themselves. Nwd is the big improver IMO and could give the top 3 a big shake. The Eags would want to get a little bit of hurry on though

The umpiring was shit today but it went both ways, we got more frees as we attacked the ball harder.. we were first to the ball and usually if you play in that way you are rewarded. You are just giving other Eagle fans a bad name EHL with this sook thread, why don't you focus on the way your team played and their basic errors instead of blaming the umpires for the loss.

If it's a pathetic thread RM why did you bother wasting your time responding then. I have every right to comment on the umpiring if I wish. It happens too many times and I was merely stating it's about time spmething gets done about it. It's not an Eagles sook thread and I am always one of the first to admit when we're not playing at our best. In fact I have made many posts of that affest this season.

We are playing way under what I expected. I was one at the start of the season to think top 3 was coming our way again. Obviously the player losses in the off season have taken their toll. We're really struggling at the minute and it wouldn't surprise me at all if we miss the finals this season. A couple of toughies coming up and we've got some ground to make up. If we can get back to our best we'll give things a shake. The jury is still out at this stage. One can only paray.

I'd bet that I'm a bigger man than you SM. If you read all my posts here mate you would know that I'm not blaming the umpiring for the result. North Adelaide played the better footy and consequently won the match, what I was stating is that we weren't shown any favours by the umpires. The umpiring was in the favour of North for whatever reason I don't know. That's all. As a neutral supporter who probably didn't attend the game I don't think you have any reason to write a post like you did.

mate, we all have those feelings sometimes, and those who say otherwise are lying. You just cant expect all to see it your way, even if you say "im not blaming them, but it was bias" it still sounds sooky. Best to take it on the chin and look to next week.

What do we have to do to get umpires that are willing to umpire the game straight down the line. It seems to me the SANFL really want the Roosters to play finals footy and that was shown today with the umpiring display.

Didn't have the rub of the umpires yesterday, however if your not first to the ball then your not going to be in the position to get the 50/50 decisions.

Makes it more frustrating when the 50/50 's result in goals, but thats football.

We got a good deal in last years grandfinal from the umps , but maybe that was because we were first to the ball like North were yesterday.

The shocker yesterday was not paying Symmonds mark , apart from that we wern't first to the ball and we could not go on with the momentum that was generated when we came back from three goals down on three occassions.
If at first you don't succeed , then destroy all evidence that you tried in the first place

Ahh a sensible post from an Eagles supporter in line with Spelly's and CD's comments. Spot on with the new rule and new interpretations for 2007, if you aren't first to the footy in 2007 you are in a lot of trouble free kick wise. Get first to the footy and chances are you will get a free kick if it is there.

The spirit of the law is to reward the player who is making the ball his sole objective most decsions are made with that in mind the player working his butt off to get front position usually gets rewarded....

This sort of encouragement is wonderful...in mini-league.

All the umpires want to do is make a decision. They'll either reward the player who is first to the ball or they'll ping him for holding the ball. And they won't be consistent. What about letting the players make a contest out of it.

Never before in any season have I made so many comments regarding ridiculous umpiring when the Eagles have actually been given the free kick, let alone when its gone against them.

The umpiring I saw at Unley on Saturday was as bad as I've seen for quite a while (both Sturt and Port decisions). A shame, as overall I haven't had too much of a problem with the standard of umpiring prior to this game. Maybe there needs to be a ban on SANFL umpires watching AFL matches...

Since when is the QUALITY of umpiring dependent on the QUANTITY of decisions?
Our standard of umpiring has definitely declined since I first attended games eight seasons ago.
Players fling around like AFL'ers for soft frees. For cruyffs sake, lets see a return to more common sense umpiring and less tippy touchwood crap that we've been dished up the last few seasons.

The one decision i would like qualified is the in the back rule when a tackle is applied.

I thought that provided the player wasn't tackled with his face planted into the ground ie tackled onto his side then it was a ligit tackle.

This year its almost as if the tackler needs to rotate the player 180 degrees for it to be legal.

Go like rugby i say , provided the tackle is layed between waist and chest who cares on the direction the tackle is layed.

That would remove the confusion between in the back, or whether the player being tackled is just throwing himself forward at point of contact.

The Eagles were very undisciplined on Sunday giving away stupid frees and deserved to lose, but some decisions were absolutely crap. Zak Hier on two occasions played in front in a marking contest and the umpire decided he had infringed........very confusing.

Are umpires taught to use the different markings on the oval to judge the length of a 25m free. Such things as the 50m arcs and the 50m square and the distance between the arcs and the 50m square. On Sunday at Prospect Oval a 25m was paid and it went from 8m behind the square to approx. 8m forward of the centre line....I make that approx. 41m what a joke. That was not the only one they got hopelessly wrong. I could say the Eagles should not give away 25m penalties but it happens. These poor judgement issues can be the difference in a kick just falling short or going through...get your brains in gear umpires.

Any post relating to how good/bad the umpiring was should only be made after a win.Regardless of how you put it EHL,sounds like whinging to me.

How can it be so one sided, yet not affect the result of the game? Beats me.

It's a game within a game.

You have to beat the umpires too.

Losers complain.....

I have a chuckle to myself when people complain about the umps.

Get out there and try umpiring. Lift the standard..... Ha.....
