eddie-eagle wrote:I'm in melb at the moment and Jars is a regular AFL commentator broadcasting games from AAMI into melbourne on SEN 1116 AM.

Prematch (West Coke vs Chocko's Chokers) his co commentators (KB & others) were talking up his aspirations for the melbourne job (LOL) and saying how Melbourne would not lack discipline when he got the job as he sacked his clubs leading goalkicker for the last five years.

Jars then went on to say, "yes his name is Daniel Hargraves, he was found to be drinking at the casino at 7 am in the week before our prelim final last year. Once that got back to me that was his last game at the club and the reason for his sacking"

This may be common knowledge to some fans, but was the first time I heard this in the public arena.

I don't think rooster fans can come on here and express annoyance at how bad a decision it was, based on the facts described by Jars.

You're a WWT supporter (how many GF's have they lost, and did they lose one by 20 goals  )and you refer to "Chocko's Chokers". Thats classic

Which case are we supposed to be defending?
I think Rushby closed the case beauifully if we're supposed to be defending Hargs.
(I have a lot more evidence up my sleeve too but its not even needed)
I thought it was done to death in October last year on this very site anyway?

I seem to recall Jarman refusing to train with the Crows and being suspended by the club in the mid 90's, you'd think he'd have more understanding :P

It was allegedly before the Prelim final so even if Jars found out before the game started there was only 1 game left to pull him out of.

You'd have to assume from his comments that Jars found out after the prelim final - which makes sense the alleged guys involved would hardly have fessed up before the match!

All assumptions based on Jars' comments ....

Would this old story be a topic again if North had won on Sunday and Hargs kicked one goal like he did when North pumped Port at Alberton? Why wasn't it resurrected back then???

It's done and dusted - he was sacked last year, he has moved on, North have moved on (sort of!) so I can't see the point in debating or in some cases guessing what occurred for those who do not know even half the real story. There is a lot more to his sacking than some of the "half truths" posted on here.

If Jars sacks players for drinking or being at the casino then he definitely won't get the Demons gig.

They wouldn't have any players left!!!

I now have absolutely ZERO respect for Jars as a coach or as a bloke. I hope he does get an AFL gig and fails miserably and gets sacked after 5 months. He clearly has his eyes elsewhere. Funny that Norwood got so annoyed with Lewis doing all that media and having his focus elsewhere, yet Jars seems to be able to do what he wants at North. It's not like he's actually achieved anything anyway. No premierships and he won't get one this year either. Hargs gave 200% for NAFC and got repaid with a sacking, and then months later Jars comes out and dumps on him to further his own career.

The bloke has no moral fibre whatsoever.

Disgrace.

Jars says he's a strong supporter of the SANFL yet at the first opportunity he's prepared to run off,to get an AFL gig. Such loyalty!

I wonder if North had kept Hargs this year people would say that we should have let him go/it's time to move on & get new talent in the team/etc. As much as I didn't enjoy watching him leave the club, as far as I know he's only played one game this year when he's a an impact (last Sunday). So I can't blame Jars for letting him go.

Not sure why Jars mentioned his name in the interview however, pretty pointless and unnecessary.

Think it's back due to Andrews recent comments. Nothing to do with North or Hargs's form at all........

I remember Jars once bearing his butt cheeks to the world during a game.

No relevance to this thread or any other, but if Jars feels that it's OK to go over old ground for material to provide an opportunity to talk about himself then it's OK for me too...

Peanut!

Anyone else got unrelated stories from the past about ANJ?

Where's he gone ... have I missed something?

We are making some big calls here based on comments (potentially tongue-in-cheek) on a radio show .... has he even applied for the job?

Geez, a month ago I heard that AFL clubs would be looking at MacGowan as an assistant once his contract at Sturt finishes .... aren't these guys allowed to think about an AFL coaching career one day? How quick we forget Jonas, Clarkson, Hamilton, Mickan, Noble .... are they all TRAITORS / EVIL / DISLOYAL ??? Someone goes on, someone else gets an opportunity such as Roy Laird.
