Who are the highest possession getters? Who won the club B&F? Who won the Magarey equivalent? Pay for a $200 flight or get the recruiter to drive over and watch a couple of their games. We want players in the mid-20 age range who are less likely to be interested in AFL but may be interested in a better league. They may not be interested but AT LEAST TRY APPROACHING THEM!!!!

The good country footballers are not going to give up their $500+/game pay and a couple of nights of training to train 5 nights a week and earn stuff all playing league or ressies. When you hear of ressies players being paid $100/game its no wonder they piss off to the country

I still think Raymond should be tried in the forward line. If Grocke didn't kick 7 in the State game you'd question his output. Easily his worst season since he's been at the Eagles IMO. Doesn't look right, but maybe it is the way it is being delivered and the structure we have... he did kick 7 last week!

Yeah, Grocke was hardly sighted today, and whilst Tippett was good, thought it was more about the way we played. Think he needs a good run at CHF. Not sure if I'd put Raymond down there, he seems to be going okay and hopefully getting Guifredda back will allow him to be a bit more attacking. Certainly need to try something different. Maybe Day, maybe Fitzgerald, even McKenzie.

From top to bottom in half a season! How does that happen? Well let's say the competition gets 5% better every year, that is a factor. Lose 4 premiership players with grunt etc. and replace them with duds etc., that is a factor. The flag obviously has made many players comfortable/ lazy (mentally and physically) just enough to take the edge of what they found last September! But let's scratch deeper now as Mr Fuller posted and get to the core of Why. Is the Coach coaching differently or asking for a change in gamestyle..... not that's obvious, so no I'd say. Goddsy might be at fault for letting the boys cruize a wee bit earlier in the season but he won't do it again so thats forgiven. He's definately been burnt by thinking the group would passionately defend what they won last season and thats a problem to be solved going forward re. recruiting and development. But what of the Players..... lets get stuck right in as we have waited until June so it's not like we are jumping the old gun heh. Lets start with an easy one, Macca:really just a victim of the opposition being wise to how to move him out of the quarterback slot where he does his best work. Goddsy needs to play him as a defensive midfielder with freedom to put out fires and release our midfielders who don't work hard enough for long enough...... ah yes, Lewis:only does one trick ie. go forward after receiving, get's little of his own ball, no defensive action and too easily shut down with a hard tag (mentally soft). Eddy:seems to be trying to copy Lewis and it's bloody working (shown nothing at all so mentally soft). Goldsworthy:not hungry, not committed to improving as a player and not working anywhere near hard enough to be the player he could be in this League. Rowntree:takes full advantage of today's head high rules ( why not ) and wins free's at will, but slow moving (no defensive action) poor kick ( usually 12.5m) and like all our midfielders except Goldy, has no run and carry in him!But every good side needs one of these players (just not 4 !). Jarrad:fit and gets leather poisoning every game but his ball distribution is hot and cold and shows up in a struggling side, but gives his all like Macca despite being near the end of a fine career. Kane:jack of all trades but may yet make it with sound coaching. Grocke: a full forward of some note in a top side but a CHF at the Eagles along with Staple as his offsider! With a midfield that has No run and carry he is waisted deep and in the end gets sucked upfield for a mark/kick. That leaves the bloody Cheer Squad to kick the goals as they are the only ones deep wearing gold, blue & green...... Joke! Shirley:has done his best but with Powell, Cicca and Rowntree also, offers no point of difference and thus no improvement in the midfield so .... why? How Joyce and Yolmen can't make the bottom club's league team tells us the coach and footy dept. think everything is still on track and they may be right but they are almost the only ones now who might believe it. Lose to Glenelg and it will just about be time to plan for 2013 with some big difficult decisions to be made on Dad's Army by Goddsy and that will be his biggest test by far :(

This pretty much sums up why we can't kick goals!! With no players aside from Jarred who can run and carry and deliver the ball well, Grocke is not going to touch the ball as a FF. He really needs to be our CHF. With Staple as a Forward pocket/Flanker. This is why we are a completely different side when Redden is with us because it allows Redden and Parry to change in the forward line where each will kick 1-2 goals and means the second best defender will take Grocke and third best will take Staple - probably the level he needs to stand out.

While I think we are are too far gone I just remembered we will probably get Salter back in the second half and with him at FF we will see immediate improvement. I would imagine he will be delisted by the Power at the end of the year so presuming he commits to the Eagles, we might go ok in that area. That just leaves the Ruckman and quick rover. One of the advantages I guess of being out of contention for the finals is that our team can plan for next year much earlier than other clubs. So at least we should be hopefullly identifying and approaching our targets before other clubs.

I reckon the Salter point is a fair call Mr F, and I've thought that also .. If he recovers OK and stays sound, he's a good chance to play the season (and thereafter) out with the Eagles, so a huge plus.

All of a sudden then, Staple becomes a pretty decent 3rd forward tall .. As Holden said their might be an some improvement required to get the ball up there, but even though Lewis can sometimes be taggle .. A combination of him, Shirley, Cica, Eddy, Powell etc should be enough to let your forwards see enough of it.

There's no way you're gone for this season yet IMHO .. There's not many teams you would rate a chance from the Elim, but the Eagles are definitely one you would.

Some paragraphs in Holden's post would make it easier to read. ;)

The Eagles are 2 wins plus percentage = 3 wins out of the 5 ... not technically fatal but hanging on by a bee's appendage. With Glenelg, then North in their next 2 matches then they either can kick-start their season or get the mercy bullet between the eyes.

I watched some of the West game on TV and there is no spark in the Eagles side ... certainly not from a side trying to rescue their season.

I've heard that Goddsy ripped into them after the game and told them to take viagra and buy a mirror ... well if the players haven't realised that yet then no wonder they are in the position they are, bottom for all of the first 10 rounds of the season.

what a shame. Its hard to understand how a team can go from top to oblivion in a matter of months. Maybe the coaching staff could think outside the box and get a few past legends like Billsy or ZIp Zap or the great man himself No17 to come in and address the players before the game one day. Point out some home truths about disappointing the fan base etc

Umm Centrals have had Jason Sutherland, Josh Wilson, Kyle Jenner, Jason McKenzie all do this over the last period of 5 years or so.

There are people that will its about finding the right ones.
