Yeah the two main contributors to the thread would never stoop so low to get involved in such debate.

I believe you  ;)

Blah, Blah, Blabbity Blah..... Centrals anyone?

We have been down this road before, but dont blame the SANFL, Port agreed to it, no one forced them to agree except the Port Adelaide Board. Full stop!

Tangentially, which party was it that forced the Alberton Cricket Club from the Alberton Oval?

ADELAIDE and Port Adelaide will not get stand-alone reserves teams in the SANFL after the restructure of their AFL licences.

And the long-running negotiations with the AFL - let alone the external debate - on how the two SA-based AFL licences are managed as football returns to Adelaide Oval will not be resolved by the June 30 deadline.

SA Football Commission chairman John Olsen yesterday declared the AFL-SANFL talks on the supposed independence of the Crows and Power licences would continue for the rest of the year.

"But reserves teams in the SANFL for the two AFL clubs is not negotiable - that will not be part of our discussions on the licences," Olsen said.

"We will not compromise the SANFL competition (with AFL reserves teams).

"But we will continue to address the issue (of how and where to field Crows and Power players not getting AFL games) to find a solution with the two AFL clubs."

Port's frustration with the AFL-SANFL alliance peaked last month when the Power was forced to take midfielder Steven Salopek from SANFL club Glenelg after the Tigers repeatedly dropped him to the reserves.

Adelaide's concerns are based on the increased gap in standards and demands between the AFL and SANFL competitions.

Both AFL clubs also promote the advantage of keeping their players under a central training and coaching system.

Olsen, in his monthly speech at the commission chairman's lunch at AAMI Stadium, declared:

DESPITE the six-month delay in AFL-SANFL talks on the Crows and Power licences, the SANFL is "on the same page on most issues with the AFL".

ADELAIDE OVAL business models should produce revenue streams that lift the Crows and Power to fifth and seventh in AFL rankings on stadium returns. This uplift would significantly enhance the clubs' businesses.

AAMI STADIUM cannot be liquidated in a fire sale, as the AFL did with its major stadium, Waverley Park in Melbourne.

"We can't have Waverley Mark II," Olsen said.

"We need to quarantine money to both reduce debt and underwrite SA football for the future."

REGARDLESS of the impending changes to SA football with the game's move to Adelaide Oval in 2014, the SA Football Commission would continue to hold an important place in the management of Australian football in SA.

This dispels the prospect of the SANFL falling under AFL centralised control to become AFL-SA, as has happened in every Australian state bar SA and WA.

So to clarify the sanfl stipulated port needed to seperate it's sanfl and afl Operations.

But the decision to kick port magpies out of its 100 year home at alberton. Was 100% the powers.

I am starting to hear this rumour a fair bit now too!

Be careful what you wish for?
If the Port licence goes back to the AFL then Port supporters really have a problem. Maybe then they'll realize that the SANFL wasn't the inhibiting ogre they've been accused of!

I could see a case for selling both licences the SANFL paid for back to the AFL, at an appropriate figure, to support the SANFL clubs.
At that point I may even stop following the Crows, let alone the Power, as I would feel no connection with either anymore.

I don't feel any connection to either club now & why should I? Football was around before The Crows & The Power rolled up, We supported AFL clubs already.

Things are heating up in the West regarding this.

Dockers and Eagles could find themselves without a league for their "leftovers" if they are not careful.

Great news, well done to the WAFL clubs. I think it's time for the WAFL & SANFL to become closer and consolidate and establish close ties to protect their futures and independence.

I know budgets are tight and a lot of clubs are doing it hard but I think it'd be great if SANFL and WAFL teams could get together for a game here and there, even if it's just the two premiers in a pre season game.
