Sounds like the Ron Fuller train has moved on down to noarlunga ;) .
The trouble with young untried recruits from the over the border. You run the risk of them being drafted before the year begins, and you have lost before you begin. And be prepared for project players from the vfl another Fuller thing.

Back on the Eagles spending money .If we could add up what the guys retiring or leaving were getting paid(like we would know) .And what we are paying for the "new recruits" would the figure not be the same or around the same margin.
Come on guys we spent nothing on recruiting the last 3 years and as they say you have to spend money to make money.

I know I'm wasting my time but Micky, for the last time, no one's questioned your salary cap. What you spend on transfer fees is outside the cap. And whether you have the capacity to pay it or not (e.g Jacob's upgrade fee) isn't what interests me. I just wonder if it might be the first sign of a reaction to the impending import rule. If it ever got to the point where wealthier clubs regularly bought players from poorer clubs, that would be a disturbing trend for the evenness of the comp.

You should have put Salter in bold too, however, three of those names you bolded aren't "ex-AFL" and are not part of the salary cap.

Spelly I think you'll find for each listed AFL player who plays League gets a nominated figure against the salary cap for each game played. I think it is $350.
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

The Woodville West Torrens Football Club would like to announce the signing of Scott Welsh and the retirement of Peter Fiacchi for 2010.

Scott Welsh – 2 years

Originally from West Adelaide, Scott was drafted to North Melbourne, making his debut with the Kangaroos in 1996. In 2000 he was traded to the Adelaide Crows where he spent 8 seasons, kicking 270 goals in 129 games, before moving to the Western Bulldogs in 2008.

At the end of the 2009 season Scott announced his intention to retire from AFL football and return to South Australia.

Upon the announcement Senior Coach Michael Godden said “We are obviously delighted that Scott has chosen the Eagles as his preferred destination upon his return to the SANFL competition”

“We are looking forward to Scott’s contribution to the football club both from an on field and off field perspective where we hope he can pass on his considerable AFL experience to our younger players”.

Scott Welsh said “When I decided to retire from AFL football, I knew I wanted to return home and play in the SANFL competition and I am thrilled to be joining the Eagles”.

“There is a buzz around the Club at the moment that has me genuinely enthused about the challenge that lies ahead”.

Peter Fiacchi - retirement

Peter has decided to retire after 133 games with the Club, debuting against Port Adelaide in Round 8 of 2001.

Announcing his intentions to the playing group at the first night of pre-season training last night, Peter said “I have thought long and hard over the last few weeks and have come to the decision that with my work, study and other personal commitments I can no longer squeeze it all in and train to the level that is required to play good SANFL football”.

“It has been an unbelievable journey over the last decade with lots of ups and downs but I have loved every minute of it and I will miss the club, the supporters and especially all the boys deeply”

“It is unfortunate to have to come to this decision this year as I would have loved to have played on with our new coach, Michael Godden, as I feel he is going to be fantastic for the Club and will see plenty of success in years to come”.

I am sure that you’ll all join me in thanking Peter for his contribution to the Eagles and wish him all the best in the future

I was at the eagles first training last night .
Here are a few names of either new players or trying out a
Peter Hoben (basketballer) not sure of spelling
James Stewart (returned)
Lee Allmond (brother of Jared)
Judd Robson
Scott Lewis
Ben English (Whyalla)
Ashley Matz
Nathan Rayner
Then the ones already confirmed – Craig Parry, Ben Greiger & Aaron Day
Chris Chubb will train with us when he returns from Melb.
Peter Fiacchi the most notable retirement.

And yep Scot there was a buzz around last night ;)

Good to see Matz having another crack. Hopefully he can stick at it. I rated him higher than Petrenko when they were both playing 17's. Rayner is a good one too- he was certainly not a Fuller favourite.

Chris Chubb coming back?? Is that serious or are you pulling our collective legs? I thought his knee was shot and suspected he may be living up to his surname after a couple of years out of the game.

Nope he is definitely keen on a comeback and wants to give SANFL footy another crack.

at this stage Sleeping giant they haven't done what Schwarze has done in an Eagles jumper .Like stop chasing the ball or in other words no second effort. And of course he would kick u 8 goals then do nothing and get reported 2 or 3 weeks in a row .

That's news to me. I've never heard of that before, only that they are part of the AFL payroll. Unless if it is a new rule that came out recently to further dumb down the competiton.

It's been in place for years Spelly. I think it's a nominal amount of $500 against the cap. i.e. the SANFL club doesn't pay it, it just counts in the cap.

I wonder how they work that out :? .Seeing the Eagles had two or three AFL listed players in the seconds in 09 .I wonder if that got added on .

My understanding re delsited/retired players returning to a lesser competition (SANFL, VFL) is that they are free agents and not tied to their previous clubs eg the Eagles weren't compensated for Crowley going to Westies in 2000, likewise if Shirley goes to Ainslie ACT the Eagles can't ask for a transfer fee, nor if Skipworth plays VFL. Therefore isn't Welsh a free agent with NO TRANSFER FEE to Westies applicable? Can someone in the know enlighten me.

What's the situation on Tommy Holmes who has left the Bays to return to the South-East? With his pace, skill and youth, would make an ideal pickup for the Eagles if he's severed ties from the Tigers and wants to try again. ONLY DREAMING!!!!!!

He can play a lot more than some of the others that continued to get chance after chance ahead of him! If you're going to talk over-rated then perhaps look at Sam Fairclough- Ron's golden child!

No, they're certainly not free agents. The Eagles were compensated for Crowell by West, and West were compensated by the Eagles for Welsh, to the tune of $25,000.
