100% agree.

Thats why I would like to see the AFL set up its own junior/reserves comp.

And you think that wouldn't impact more on the SANFL that a Port and Crows reserves team?

The good SANFL players are obviously going to want to play at the highest level they can, .....

Therefore the good SANFL players will play in the SANFL.

Do you think he would play SANFL or in the AFL reserves comp? By him and others like him not playing SANFL, how does that make our comp better, protect it?

Sanfl he could play for an afl reserves team now as pointed out previously. But he chose west knowing full well it had no direct link to an afl club . Why ???

Because he's a defender and West play 21 defenders each week. He figured he'd definitely get a game with them.

Why??? Because the SANFL is perhaps seen as a better (?) standard of football, leading to more opportunities at AFL level.

If this was not the case and the Joel Tippetts of the world did not come here, where would the SANFL be ?

Its a good point you make Mr Boon. Some players prefer to play in the sanfl due to our high standard of football and they think that will help there chances to be drafted.eventhough they could play with a club directly affiliated with an afl club in a lesser league.

And that's why I think an AFL reserves comp will have less effect on the sanfl than having crows/power reserves side in our league.

Surely you'd empathise with people being passionate in support of their club/league. Isn't that your alibi whenever You defend port Adelaide's draining on sanfl finances ?? Your just a very passionate supporter.

No offence meant by that btw.

Just off the cuff - I can think of 5 players who have been delisted - came to Westies and were then redrafted a year later.

While not familiar with other SANFL team I sure there is a heap of similar stories - it would be interesting to me to find out about how many at the other clubs as this speak volumes about our state league

Haha, nice try, no bite here. :D

I'm all for protecting the SANFL and it's virtues, I'm all for a strong competition with the current 9 clubs involved.

I'm also yet to see anyones proposal that, IMO, improves the football world as a whole in SA.

I dont think you will see that I support a Port/Crows reserves side in the SANFL, I dont.

Do I think it would help my club, Port Adelaide, to succeed on and off field? I see no evidence to suggest that.

For mine, Port and Adelaide have reserves side play in the SANFL reserves and dont play for points, thats an easy fix. But that will hardly suit either AFL club, and lets be fair, they are the ones who will most likely have the biggest say in what happens. Money talks.

Not trolling just explaining why the clubs/fans are so passionately against it.

And Without sanfl clubs approval......

Plus when we sell the licences we will no longer have the burden of Worrying about such issues.

I think that's one of the arguments against over in the west. Fremantle had so many injuries last year that had they had a reserves side, there would've been only 4 players in that reserves team actually on Fremantle's list.

Disrupt a whole league just so four blokes can play together? What's the point?
It's all the SANFL's fault.

The more i think about it the more im thinking there will be an AFL National Reserves Comp as early as 2013-2014!

With both the Crows and West Coast looking to at very least travel into the 2nd week of finals this issue is going to come up in a big way again.

I dont think the Crows are going to be to quiet on this when come finals they could have players like Jenkins, Martin, Tambling, Kerridge, McIntyre, Riley, Jaench, K.Thompson, Johnston, Knights, Smith not getting a game of football anywhere.

From my understanding the SANFL have already told AFL officials under no circumstances will they have an AFL reserves side in their comp.

With the billions the AFL is making their will be to much pressure from both the AFL clubs plus public in SA and WA to show its a national comp and not give the victorian clubs a 'leg up' as its seen.

Fine, stop taking your dividends and hand back the AFL Licenses that the AFL clubs have paid for.

SANFL could offer the SA based AFL clubs to play their reserves teams in the SANFL reserves comp. If that does not suit then they can arrange to play in another comp. Non negotiable.

The SANFL bought them, soooo... what would they be worth in today's $$? The SANFL can sell them to the clubs if they want independence.

Ummm how much have port power given to the sanfl.

Yep a nice bit of coin and the clubs can have their own licences. Then they can find a ground to play it as the ao is sacas and the sanfl which port and crows wont be part of

Yeah well, the tenant I had in my place for a couple of years paid the rent in spades but it doesn't mean the property title transferred to her.

Agree with posts since this beenreal, buy out your licence and come to an arrangement to pay back some of the millions that the SANFL have dumped into your club in the last few years. Next time when you need a bail out like North Melbourne you can go cap in hand to the AFL and see where that gets you.

Gee what a surprise that you agree with more Port bashing.

UKs article talks about since 2007. Port Adelaide have been paying a dividend in addition to $400k for the License per year since 1997.

Never let the truth get in the way of a good story?
