Also with sponsors and guests still talking in groups in the stand that lasting image even though well after the end of the game hurts the club and no club needs that.

Hi CD

Saw & heard the same thing at games end. Feel sorry for the kid who I assume has to live with that on a constant basis.

Otherwise very entertaining and plenty to write about for the Messenger.

Hey Fester most of the norwood anger was at your own players .
Mind you If I was 22 and 13 I might be worried about being lynched giving the eagles two goals .

No wonder you guys have been a bottom team for so long turn on your own very quickly and early most games and you keep being our bitches !!!

THE EAGLES GET ON THE SCOREBOARD

By Peter Argent

A brilliant eight-goal opening was the catalyst to the Eagles first win of season 2008. Mark Passador started the first quarter onslaught, returning to the senior side with two goals in the opening three minutes of the game and finished the match with five important goals in the win over Norwood at The Parade.

Nick Salter displayed why he has been rookie listed with the Power. He gave a strong presence around the ball and kicked four goals in the win, whilst the work-rate and the direct driving of the ball towards goal by on ballers Luke Powell and Leigh Treeby was a significant component as well. Captain Mark McKenzie continued his excellent early season form, giving drive from defence and being a mature on field leader alongside younger team mates.

The five goal lead at the first break was squeezed back to a couple of majors during the third term. With more discipline, Woodville-West Torrens kicked 5.2 (including three from free kicks) in the last stanza, compared to 2.8 by the opposition to eventually win by a comfortable 35-point margin.

Diminutive forward Craig Fitzgerald belied his size, kicking three second half goals and being a thorn in the Legs’ defence, while second and fourth gamers Travis Lane and Cody Hicks helped out with a couple each, as did hard working forward Adam Grocke.

In a pretty even team performance Luke Jarrad was effective and 18-year-old Sam Fairclough did a mountain of unheralded work, which he deserves some accolades for. Two young Eagles made their SANFL League debuts - 17-year-old smooth mover Matthew Broadbent and just a year his senior, Sam Daveron. Both showed enough to suggest they have the capacity to become long team League players in the club’s tri-colours.

With senior players Justin Cicolella and Gavin Colville playing well in the seconds and Lee Staple producing a best on ground performance, it will be an interesting selection night before the Round five fixture, next Saturday against West Adelaide at Broadspectrum Oval.

Hooray! A win!

I didn't get there till half way through the second quarter, but the Eagles looked switched on and ran out the game well. Every time Norwood got within a couple of goals, the Eagles would meet the challenge and keep them at arms length. Some poor discipline by Norwood cost them any chance they had in the final quarter.

The conditions were perfect and the game was generally free flowing and reasonably skillful. Both sides had good forward targets, but the long and direct game plan of the Eagles won out. Powell was a stand out as b.o.g. for me. Salter was very good, playing on the ball and kicking a few goals. Treeby was his usual self - having developed consistency in his game at this level to match the likes of McKenzie and Powell as the Eagles most valuable players.

Of the young guys I was very impressed with Mackie and Fitzgerald. I didn't see a lot of upside to Mackie when I saw him for the only time against North, but what I saw tonight was a tough in and under player who has excellent quick hands and does the one percenters such as smothers and tackles. That was easily Fitzgerald's best game I've seen. He now has the necessary fitness to last out the game and make the right spots. He is clever and will hopefully keep improving throughout the season.

It will be nice to have a weekend knowing a win is already tucked away.

Apologies, Aerie, it was me who locked it. Starting from last round we have decided to lock the "pre match" thread, and open a "review" thread when the match is finished. The live scores from all the matches are on the same thread. Next time, if you are the first to comment on a match that has just finished, just start a new thread - it may turn out to be a very popular thread with you as the starter of it. ;)

I think this just is about the most inexperienced backline we've had from 1991, to be honest. Even when we were down the ladder in 1995 and 1997, there was Rogers and and then Hall in there as well.

went to the game and thought the eagles were in control from the start to the finish, although without a focalppoint in passador it would have been interesting. the norwood fb (9) was shocking.i must admit if it had been any other side i dont think the eagles would have won.but the eagles will take it while norwood are still a rabble.

We wouldn't have got close to last years top four sides based on last night, but you're spot on, a win is always worth two premiership points.

Don't reckon anyone would have stopped some of the marks Passador took last night, given the latitude their midfield were given (and the delivery they provided him) at times and the space he had.

Zorsi mate ... Certainly wasn't his best night, but Passador was almost unstoppable at times with the quality of ball he received.

Yeah he's not your typical FB, but I don't reckon there would be anyone in the League with a better record against Chambers and probably Warren.

Why is it all I read from certain other posters on this forum is negativity about Norwood? It's usually Central and North supporters BTW. There were plenty of positives to be taken from Norwood's game on Friday if you bothered to look for them.

Nobody talks about Vlatko's 6 goals (and also maybe the Eagles FB was shocking?). No, let's focus on rubbishing a player like Zorzi who has been a wonderful contributor to Norwood for the past few seasons, and who kept Chambers to 1 goal in Round 1. Not many FBs will do that this season, in fact none.

Then we saw Taylor Walker for the first time, the emergence of a lad who can honestly play the game and will play a lot of AFL before his career is over. But what do I read? The same old crap .. Norwood are a rabble, blah, blah ... boring. If I were a North supporter I'd be more worried about my own team at the moment.

Eagles are a far better team with Passador in the side. He straightens them up and makes their plan more direct. I would go so far as to say without Passador, the "rabble" may have beaten the Eagles. For all the people willing to sign the Eagles' death notices, think again. They'll be up there again in the finals. Not enough credit has been given to the Eagles for their win last night.

Hey, I was there too and no negativity from me, in fact I was cheering for Norwood!
Mind you if it wasn't for Constance Perm giving me a running commentary of the game I would have had no idea what the hell was going on consuming so much of the local beverage that I struggled to see the 50 metres line (the close one) from Coopers Hill.
