Common sense says Doug should of retired at least 8 years ago.

The Queen's 80 and she hasn't retired.

She doesn't do anything!

What could she possibly retire from?

Another case of some one who should just let go !!!!

My Question to you.... would you "walk away, retire call it what you will" which would also be turning your back on a probable huge pay out for service (long service leave accural, holiday pay accural etc)... or would you hold out for the club to sack you??

Good Question

I think at that age you are not making wise business decisions and you are holding on for yourself and can often drop the ball on what you are being paid to do and this can have massive ramifications - I have seen it first hand and on many occassions.

I would retire as it shows some dignity - the amount of money difference in this decision would not be much differnent either way I think. It depends if you wish to bite the hand that has fed you for so long !!!!!

bLUEbOY you might find that after reaching 65 years of age severance pay is not untitled well not at my work anyway. I think he should move on gracefully so Westies can start making enough money to get their timeclock and toilets fixed.

Here we go again

As like by a miracle of God at 5.15opm on 5AA, Ken Eustice appears, it must be a miracle, or was he sitting on the flank on the broken TIME BLOODY CLOCK ready to swoop.

Well enough of the over 60's

West needs to approach in my non educated opinion
1) John Kantalaftis (luv where's my nos. 34 jumper,, mite need it again)
2) Darren Chandler
3) Ian Borchard (The new face of westies)

New faces to westies, not oldish businessmen.

Blasts From The Past who could be GM
Tommy Thorn, David Grainger, Ken Eustice & Who was the lad who got caught with a sack full of fur quotes Bruce Stev----???? but not sure

Consistent On Field Success ? Tick
The only thing missing is a few premierships but Ive never seen a CEO setup or kick a goal in a Grand Final yet!

Just being picky - but you did give him a tick for on field success....

Funny - and I would've accepted the wisdom of that advice had I ever been silly enough to sway from the Doggies!

He gave me a free ticket to the North v West GF back in the 90s, after I'd been let down by a Bloods supporting mate.
A 14 year old kid at Footy Park by himself with no money to get in - and Dougie came to the rescue!
A bloody good match to watch with the brouhaha that followed.

My apologies but I've given a guarantee that I won't put anything in print just yet. I am told there is a bit more mileage in this one.(noone would be surprised)

What I can say is this:
1. Although there is little doubt that removing Doug has been on the agenda for some years at West Adelaide it is a testimony to his wily cunning that it has taken this long to finally happen. It should also be said that it is very difficult to dismiss someone who doesn't attend work and won't answer the phone or the door.
2. Doug has never been employed by the West Adelaide Football Club. Those close to the scene are aware of this and it has been discussed on footysa threads before. It is my understanding that there won't be any significant payouts applicable.
3. Although Doug is still President of the West Adelaide Footballers Club, which contributes significant funds as everyone has said to the Football Club,he does not own it - he has a committee to deal with which has the best interests of the club at heart, not Doug's best interests. I would think even the 'tea and scones' set that love him so much would abandon him if he tried to starve the footy club of operating money.
4. There is no doubt that Doug has done a lot for West Adelaide over the years but there is also no doubt he has not done so at any detriment to himself. He has been well compensated in many ways and certainly not always in a selfless manner.

The cleaner that lifts up the carpet in the GM's office at Westies will indeed be busy collecting up all the matter that has been swept under it over the last 30 years.

Can't wait to see them...

Isn't it great that the internet's given 'insiders' a place to go spread gossip, without actually spreading gossip.

I wonder how Westies would be today if the last coop in 1988 had worked?

We might have won a flag or two in the past few years and Me thinks Westies might have a bit of a younger supporter base. I dunno it is a hard question to ponder.

Stawb2007

On the mark, my worry is our declining supporter base, we ferry a bus load every week from the shady acres retirement village to make up our numbers, we are sick there and if doug is too blame well thats a problem we have to correct for the future, that is all done and cant be changed by pondering over it. We did a new futurist committee that can make thing happen. recruiting, promotion, membership pushes etc.

Good win yesterday, but that is faaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaar from satisfying, a win against norths would relight my faith and hope
