Will the Double-Header be Moved to Sunday?

All discussions to do with the SANFL

Postby Ecky » Mon Sep 04, 2006 10:02 am

In today's Advertiser, SANFL marketing and corporate affairs manager Paul Anderson said:

Paul Anderson wrote:I can't say what would happen until we sit down and work it out. There will be one game on Saturday but we'll have to talk with the ABC to see which game they're set up to broadcast.

I can't believe how unprepared the SANFL are on this issue! The ABC has announced for weeks that it will broadcast the double-header so surely he should know this, or at least look it up before making a public statement.

They obviously have no backup plan and are blindly unaware of what is going on around them - there was always a good chance the Crows would play on the Saturday afternoon. I'm very disappointed, SANFL. :?

from someone who WOULD know

I understand that the SANFL issued a statement last week saying that the
double-header would be changed to the opposite day of the Crows game if the
Crows were given a Saturday or Sunday final. From that, I'm 99.9% sure that
the double-header will be changed to Sunday.

But if that is correct, it was issued from the same SANFL who didn't realise that the double-header was the televised game.

It will come down to who has the stronger will, the ABC to keep to their schedule of televising the double header, or the SANFL to insist that it is moved - and they are probably only meeting now to decide this. So everything is just speculation at this point.

Besides a selfish point of view - surely everyone would agree that they will get a far greater crowd if the game was played on Sunday as opposed to clashing with a Crows final at AAMI stadium which is also likely to be live on tv.

A Sunday game would also allow all those playing and attending Amateur and Country finals to see the game.

From the North website:

This week's match has been changed... it will now be on

Sunday 10th September 06 at 2.20pm

and the Reserves will play before at 11.35am.

Both games will be played at Adelaide Oval.

The reason for the change is due to the Adelaide Crows match scheduled for 2.30pm on Saturday.

Hope we see you all there, Go the Roosters!

So what has happened to the double header?

so a stand alone game? interesting...still would have been much better at Glenelg or Noarlunga....i know the clubs wouldnt have agreed to give the other a home ground but would have been a better atmoshpere....or maybe we could have split the difference and played at Brighton!

Fu*k the ABC who didn't want to swap their TV game and preferred the South/Glenelg game as opposed to the other orignally scheduled games so the double header couldn't be moved to sunday along with the other games! North/Port now Friday night and that was originally on TV now no coverage. Should have kept the double header as the crowd would have been still good even allowing for the Crows but and the South/Glenelg game holds interest for others besides their own supporters and it deserves a big turnout. Splitting these games will probably result in less overall total for the 2 games than they would have got as a double header even going against the crows. Isn't Glenelg one of the clubs that suffers when up against the Crows? Dumb decision and the SANFL bowing to ABC - WTF? There is one good reason why the game of the week should not be live - it should be a replay as the timeslot dictates the programming now. Geez and I thought the ABC had no clout but it can tell a major sporting league what to do. The SANFL should have told the AFL to program the Crows game Friday night instead of bowing to the AB Bloody C.

Pretty disappointing to see the death of the double header, i know there are a few North fans who were keen to watch the Pre-Elimination Final between Glenelg and South before our game against the wharfies.
On The Roost the last news i read was our game is on the Friday night.
