CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER ANNOUNCED
Media Release 26/09/2013
The Glenelg Football Club’s Board of Directors are pleased to announce the appointment of Steven Moore as Chief Executive Officer of Glenelg Football Club.
Steve is a former SANFL Footballer, representing the Woodville-West Torrens Football Club at junior, reserves & league level during the period 1985-1992, including being a player during the successful merger of the Woodville & West Torrens Football Clubs.
Steve has spent the last three years on the Board of Directors of the Woodville-West Torrens Football Club after being appointed by member elect in February 2011. Steve resigned from the Eagles Board prior to accepting the CEO position.
“In my previous board role I critically evaluated the club’s financial reporting systems and recommended improvements, as well as providing a sounding board to the CEO when a Chartered Accountant’s view and opinion was required”, Steve said.
He went on to say, “In my time as a board member at the Eagles I have gained a great understanding of the financial operations of one of the more successful SANFL clubs of recent times, as well as the SANFL competition as a whole. The many changes currently happening in the SANFL present all clubs with huge challenges but at the same time, great opportunities”.
“Being a past SANFL player I can bring a players perspective to the table, but at the same time bring the skills and expertise 25 years experience involved in the accounting and business world provides”, said Steve.
Steve has extensive background in the finance sector with significant experience in business development, systems, cost control & financial management.
As Glenelg’s Chief Executive Officer, Steve will have a centralised focus on the sustainability and growth of the Club.
Glenelg Football Club President Nick Chigwidden and fellow board members welcomed the new appointment.
“Steve has the skills that are valuable to a board striving for success both on and off the field, ensuring the club’s long-term viability and its position as a force in the SANFL”, said Nick Chigwidden.
“Initially, Steve will need to familiarise himself with the Club. The 2014 Season is quickly approaching and we have a number of agendas we need to address. Building relationships with key stakeholders, sponsors, members, staff, Council and the SANFL will be priorities as well as the future projects under review.” Mr Chigwidden concluded.
A short stint as Commercial & Finance Manager of Longridge Group Pty Ltd, followed a long career with chartered accounting firm Accru Harris Orchard, the last twelve years as an Equity Partner. His experience in advising hospitality clients, along with ownership interests in such businesses, means he is equipped with the right expertise the clubs needs in its strategic planning and development.
The Glenelg Football Club welcomes Steven Moore to his new role as Chief Executive Officer. He will officially commence his new role with Glenelg on Tuesday the 8th October, 2013.
