WTF, have you been there? :?

Last game we played there last season, when we subtly set them up to think they had a chance at the 5, 8) the oval had more bare areas than a mangy tiger.

Reminded me of the claypan at West Whyalla.

In case you havent noticed there is a drought....FFS what do you expect?

Ever heard about recycling? They're putting in a system at Arctic Park that will save us several salary cap fines a year in H2O and fertiliser.

To the Bays credit they get their fertiliser free from the cattle they agist during the week, but the outer last year was verdant which only highlighted the problems on the oval itself.

Seriously though, have they identified the problem? It looked to me as though the oval should be left fallow next season so the soil has a chance to rejuvinate. Maybe turning in a crop of Lucerne is the answer.

It's a shame really, as it used to be such a pretty oval. :(

8th: Elizabeth, heaps of grass , facilities ok, disgraceful location, wouldn't wish my worst enemy to live near it.
9th: Noarlunga, great facilities, shocking location, terrible surface (sand based)
10th: Unley, makes a joke of the SANFL and shouldn't be allowed.

I think that Prospect has the best BBQ.

Nah, Richmond wins the BBQ hands down

I think he meant on the ground, there's more on the hill at the bay than the playing surface.

For a start on top of the dry winter, there were many frosts and that kills off the couch type of grass at the bay which is the only option due to the sandy soil...while the frosts kill off the grass the roots remain and while it does not look good it still provides a decent surface...so unless you can help us to stop frosts there is no solution...

Usually the closer to the sea you are, the less likely it is that you will get a frost, I guess this year was a exception.

In the Barossa they use large fans to blow over the vinyards to keep the frost away, if every bay member buys a fan, plugged them into a couple hundred power boards around the ground each night, you should be right for 2007.

As a separate issue, here's a rating of each ground's surface.

Alberton - Very Good

Elizabeth - Used to be good, but has deteriorated a bit.

Prospect - Ordinary, hopeless if it has rained.

Unley - Worst in the league in anything but fine conditions.

Woodville - Usually pretty good, centre is no good if it's wet at all. Pongs a bit if it has rained.

Richmond - Used to be close to the best, but was badly frost affected this year.

Norwood - Used to be the worst in the league by far, but has improved out of sight. Now excellent.

Noarlunga - Looks great from afar, but the grass is sparse up close.

Glenelg - Shocker. Either a sand pit or a bog, except in fine conditions.

Adelaide - Replace the divots, please. Hallowed ground.

Have to disagree with your parking assessment. At almost every Bays home match in 2006 I was able to secure a park on Williams Tce, which runs right behind the oval. For poor parking see Unley Oval, and to a lesser extent Norwood.

Alberton Oval is easily the best ground in the SANFL.

Excluding Elizabeth (for bias reasons) and Adelaide my favourite grounds are Woodville, Glenelg, Prospect. Middle of the road: Richmond, Norwood (bonus points for Coopers), Alberton. Shitsville: Unley, Noarlunga. I will grade Thebarton after the ANZAC Day clash as I haven't been there since Pooraka played Flinders Park in a SAFA grand final.

poor parking... Prospect Oval and every other one that only allows you to park on one side of a street. That drives me crazy, especially as I might as well have walked from home earlier this year at Prospect, as I was so far away!
