Could Central beat Carlton @ Elizabeth Oval?

Seriously does anyone entertain the thought that any SANFL club could beat an AFL team? Given Centrals in recent years have been way ahead of other SANFL clubs and even if Centrals played at their very best they still wouldn't beat Carlton at their worst! The AFL teams are by virtue of being full time professionals are always going to be bigger, stronger and faster overall than the best club (Centrals) or clubs outside the AFL.

Centrals wouldn't get within 20 goals. Consider the fact that Carlton lead the WC Eagles for a considerable amount of time in last year's game in Perth.

1 performance does not make a good side, keep in Mind Centrals few years ago had 4 100+ point wins in 1 season.

I witnessed the Port Power v Sturt contest in 2003 when the Power held on in a tight finish to win by 198 pts. Speaking to some Sturt players afterwards, they said that speed & strength are the BIG differences between the respective teams and players. When a SANFL player gets the ball, by the time he has thought about a method of disposal, he has already been tackled and put under huge pressure. When a SANFL player decides to tackle an AFL player, the AFL player has already got rid off the ball !! Centrals would have beaten the WAFL & VFL premiers during the best era, but we'll never know as the state leagues can't seem to be able to organise a pre season cup that would generate a huge amount of interest for footy fans.

Well hopefully if Subiaco win the WAFL again and North can "jag" the SANFL then the South African game (if it goes ahead) might be a starter to something bigger involving SA/WA and god help us the VFL in years to come - who knows?

As much as I usually blindly back the 'Dogs, I would have to say that against an AFL side they would be struggling. The gap these days is immense, not just in salaries but training facilities, medical treatments, dieticians, etc. Having toured both the Crows and Centrals traiming facilities, the gulf is immense between the two. However Central will be tring to close it up with plans in place for a new training area including a lap pool.

come on wake up to yaself champ carlton by min 20 goals the likes of fev , wihittnal , stevens , scotland , lappin , gibbs , murphy would clean up playing against any sanfl team .
