Thumbs up from me, however the away jumper should be Red with a Black sash.
If one person does it, it's insanity. If millions do it, it's religion.

good work westies, the comment from wedgie "it will attract the kids" is spot on, and for that reason i will disagree with tassie_medallist... i too love the original bays logo but it looks very dated and kids don't have the history to attach to it. attracting young supporters has to be one of the main drivers for any sporting team hoping to secure a long term future. in between overs at the cricket you don't hear songs from 40 years ago for the same reason... its about getting the youth interested because the previous generation are already sold on it!

for these reasons i would like to see the bays modernise their logo and adopt the heritage guernsey as a clash-guernsey (not an away guernsey - there's a bloody difference!)

If the bays make these changes it wouldn't sit well with me for a while, but it's just the modern way isn't it.

yeah i have no problems with having a youth orientaed merchandise line with an alternative logo to attract the kiddies (like we have in the past) I just believe the logo on the guernsey should be sacrosanct and that should never change......

If West try & wear their Red away jumper vs North, there will be violence akin to August 3rd, 1985.....

Ours is a unique emblem different to the old Balmain one, Richmond and Claremont emblem, which other black and gold clubs follow depending on the state they're in.

The Roosters won their last flag wearing the vertical striped 'KFC Bucket' guernsey!

Won more with a Vee on the front though.
Christ don't remind me about the candy stripes, sad part about it is some North supporters actually like that guernsey! :?

I also liked that guernsey; probably it's because that's the first one I saw of Norths.

I wonder if that's what people said when they adopted the current logo????

FWIW, I'd like to see North change it's logo to a "modernised" version of the old coat of arms.

I think you'll find that in the mid 70s there was a push from the SANFL for for the clubs to all adopt an official logo for marketing purposes. Prior to that anyone could produce a merchandice using club colours with a logo of their choice and sell. The SANFL wanting a slice of the $$$ made the clubs come up with official logos and for uniformity of marketing all clubs had the circle designs. I other-words their was a encouragement from the SANFL for the clubs to have these circle logos.

They first appeared on guernseys IIRC in 1978.

Whimpress' book discusses ths issue to a degree.

An old offical logo/crest for Glenleg was GFC in the mode of Sturt and Carlton, but since the 70s our official logo has been the one we see now.

Yeah I know I can be acused of being hypocritical claiming a 70s logo as traditional, but to me the logo is the one I've grown up with and despite a few exceptions it is realtively unique in the sporting community.

What I particularly like about our logo is that is "forward moving" and attacking, in other words a positive logo, we are not loking to go sideways or backwards but forward, with purpose....

the sanfl has some magnificent guernseys. these away jumpers are neccesary in a lot of cases but they look hideous.

At least the blood would be well camouflaged

FWIW I think the new Westies jumper itself looks fine, but the caricature of the angry beagle is hideous - and why stick it under the player's armpit ferchrissakes? Just all red with black piping, perhaps with a monogram, would have done nicely. Not that I reakon West needed an alternative jumper in the first place.

I'm not fond of the new logo either. Don't reakon there was anything wrong with the old ones. "If it ain't broke..."

Obviously a lot of other teams supporters are going to criticise the new logo and
the away jumper..but to me who cares! Westies are trying to head in a new direction
and be a successful club...We were becoming stagnant under the old regime and
going nowhere...At least it gives us Westies supporters something...tradition means
nothing if your'e winning wooden spoons.

Can anyone photo-shop some Wooden spoons in around the Bloods new logo in place of the Timber Wolves trees?

I saw the logo and thought two things, in this order :

- Cool, looks great
- T-Wolves

I've no doubt that the Minnesota logo was "inspiration" for the Westies logo. But I've studied them a bit and to be honest, all you can actually say is the same is the "style" of the pictures. That, and the half shadow across the head. If they've copied it - they've done it extremely well and taken care not to copy any aspects directly.

As for the word - the "serifs" on the B and S (no pun intended) are similar but again - not "copied".

As much as I still love the old "circle" logos that I grew up with through the 80's - I think these new designs aren't bad at all.
