his performance in the 98 grand final keeping hodges to 0 goals was incredible.

Not to take anything away from Threadgold but...

Bryan Beinke was our star forward that year.

Scotty was way past it. History probaly got him a game that day.

That and Darren Smith's suspension.

IIRC, Scotty was dragged at half-time and didn't return?

Sorry, no lemons :)

Isn't Gags Norwoods captain this year? Theres your answer. Dud player, cant see his captaincy being any better. Anyone who shies away from a contest shouldn't be captain

Nearly always plays well against Port, maybe thats where the resentment comes from ... Rohan Smith didn't attack any more contests than Gags but was still a great player

I've never understood criticism of that style of player. It takes all types of player to make a team. You need your in-and-under types, your link men, and your receivers to finish it off. The last thing you need is 18 Garry McIntoshes running around as they would keep running into each other head on :)

Exactly AH - as long as those outside players use the ball well when they get it, what more can you ask of them.
I don't think receivers shirk confrontation when it's necessary either. You wouldn't survive at AFL/SANFL level if you did that.
You're my only friend, and you don't even like me.

Geez, some of you blokes aren't afraid to throw generous accolades on some players. On this thread alone we've had Thredgold, Maloney and Nelson described as champions and now Rohan Smith as a great. Champions and Greats should be terms used sparingly for those 1 or 2 per cent of players who truly deserve it.

Being a bit pedantic aren't we champ (lol sorry) ... Everyone has different terminology, there is no across-the-board standard as such ... To MY mind Rohan Smith was a great player (and there have been hundreds of these), whilst I would save champion, legend etc to the immortals of the comp ...

And this from someone who supports a team Tim Ginever played for. LMAO.

Right on! One very effective player for the old Torrens team was Lindsay Head. He was never involved in body clashes, but Neil Kerley lined him up several times in one match and missed him [and the ball] each time.
