It was a good trip, too :D

What sort of coverage did it get in Tassie r&b? We were overwhelmed with the amount of press in the NT especially with a 12 page newspaper spread, tv crews everywhere, etc and did you get a couple of hundred Westies supporters there too?

It got a couple of small articles, Wedgie.

I actually had a chat to the journalist who wrote it and he told about a conversation he'd had with his editor. It went like this.

Editor: "you don't expect much space for this, do you?"

Reporter: "well, I was hoping for a reasonable run. After all, I know we won the Pura Cup yesterday, but it's the only footy game in Hobart today."

Editor: "I've got news for you, Smith, you're getting just a quarter page. Now, if it was North Adelaide instead of West Adelaide, it would be a different matter. We'd relegate the Pura Cup win to the Births and Deaths page and run a 20 page spread just on the Roosters. After all, they did beat the cream of Australia's footballers in Darwin last year, they play the most attractive footy in Australia, they make squillions each year and it's only bad luck they choked, I mean narrowly failed to win the premiership again last year. So, don't come to me looking for space for West Adelaide, the people of Tassie want to read about the Roosters!!! Who are they playing, by the way?

Reporter: Oh, the Tassie Devils.

Editor: What, that mediocre lot!!! We'll cut it to 16 pages in that case, 15 on North, one on the Devils.
By the way, what sort of coverage will this get in Adelaide?

Reporter: Oh, I think West have had a lead-up article in the paper before the trip and they'll get a prominent article from Doug Robertson on Sunday, next to the 4 lines about the North v Glenelg trial.

Editor: They've got no idea. Don't they realise this trip by West Adelaide is a triumph for North Adelaide? Don't they realise the only way any SANFL club will ever be any good is to be just like the Roosters? Don't they understand anything over there?

Reporter: Sorry boss, of course you're right. I'll scrub this and write an article about Jars thoughts on the disgrace West might bring on the state of South Australia.

Editor" That's all right then. Good to see you understand what the real stories are at last.

bloody north grabbing the spotlight again
all i will say just watch out for westies this year

I remember a trial between NAFC and Essendon reserves a few years back when NAFC were a bottom 3 side.

NAFC won by a kick.

This West result seems pretty consistent with that sort of form.

Two points to consider though:

Trials mean very little.

Secondly due to no AFL wouldnt there have been more than the normal quota of AFL players playing?
Never give a sucker an even break

Nor ban a user for an acceptable topic of discussion.

"Baby on board". Why dont you put a sign on ur car saying "adult on board" or "car stereo in use"?

The result is not that bad for West or indeed the SANFL.Tassie have been fairly good in the VFL until last season where they were aligned to the Kangaroos which unsettled them enomously.West on the other hand have only won 5 out of their last 41 games.Of course it was only a trial.

Please dont let it happen.
