It would probably be detrimental to the crowd figure if it was banned altogether.

Doubt it .... case studies across the world of events where smoking is banned shows very little impact on numbers in most cases. SANFL would be the same - that argument gets brought up whenever a smoking ban is mooted. People still do the things they want to (such as going to the footy) and then just put up with whatever they need to do to have their fag fix.

sheesh some people on this site (see smoking thread) would also have you shot or drawn and quartered for smoking... ok though to piss/gamble away your hard earned - that seems to be accepted. (how many smokers bash their spouses or lose their house over their disgusting habit????????
:x

Agreed..I'm a smoker and generally go off out of the way at footy games for a smoke.
I step back away from other spectators. I can understand that they don't want to be passive smokers. But if you want to ban smoking at football games, ban alcohol as well..or is that ok
to drive off after a game with a belly full of beer?. I'm not saying everyone who likes a drink
or 2 are like that, but i have seen the bad side of supporters who have had the one too many.

I say why not ban alcohol - the crowd trouble that flares up from time to time would surely all but diminish if you did.

Highly unlikely though given the amount of money West End pumps into the competition (and Coopers spends ensuring Norwood Oval isn't condemned)

I don't smoke, but I would hate to see it banned in the outer, it's part of the atmosphere of SANFL and one of the reasons why I like SANFL footy. If I wanted to be told what to do by bloody do-gooders, I'd take out a Crows membership and go to Footy Park.

I hope the SANFL doesn't go smoke free, but I admit thats purely the wish of a smoker ... I try where possible to be reasonable with my habit and not volunteer the passive remnants to others ... I've never understood why one (or two) section couldn't be set aside as a smoking area, doesn't even need to be a large area and given the grounds are never full to capacity, cant see why it couldn't be possible.

All that said, I can understand the importance of non-smokers wishing to breathe air only.

Yes, all smoking should be banned from SANFL games. Filthy habit which no one that pays for a ticket to see the footy should have to put up with. Sorry to the smokers, but until they invent a smoke that is only consumed by the person that wants it, it should be banned.

The other option for you is to support an afl team.

If you had a choice seat down the front, right near the bench, the action is right in front of you, why should you have to move so someone can light up and pollute the air you breathe?
Ban it I say.

I must admit, they should ban smoking at grounds such as Noarlunga, everyone is jammed in there each week.......oh gosh, the feral animals roaming around in the wilderness down there might not like it.......and another thing, if they ban smoking, what about the smokers who bring their own car into noarlaunga and decide to smoke in the car?
You non-smokers need to kick the BORING habit!

Recently smoking's been banned in clubs in the Eastern states and pokie profits and attendances at those clubs have dropped significantly.
Some venues are down 1/3rd on numbers.

Ive got a great idea.
Cordon off about 30 metres of the spectators area, tell people they can't drink, smoke or swear in that area and call it the family fun area.
If area fills up too much because lots of people don't smoke, drink or swear then expand it..
God Im a genius.

I was talking about 'standing' in the outer, not sitting on seats in a packed section or down on the fence. I believe it that were the case you could rightfully tell the 'smoker' to move or butt out.
Lets face it, most grounds are not full to the brim these days and there is plenty of room to accomodate everyone.
I believe all types of body odour should be banned aswell.

I am a reformed smoker and i say that Smoking in the outer should be allowed. Why should we discriminate against a legal habit. Smokers as well as non-smokers all have rights you could put the smokers in certain areas some might be offended. When I smoked at the footy i walked away from others and had my cigarette and put the butt in the bin after putting it out. we need to respect others choices.
