Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

They shouldn't overlook Darren Mead. He could be right around the mark.
He would be my preference.

Its funny, Im currently reading Stan Alves' book and that's the exact same reason he gave for St Kilda's poor showing in 1996, he just held on for his job and made the GF the following year.

It makes absolutley no difference who the club gets as coach, with the current situation that the players at South Adelaide call the shots not the coaching staff, the club can look forward to still not having their dicks wet in another 43 years time.

John Reid was the best South coach we had since Neil Curley and he was sacked after he "lost the support of the players" and where did that get the club - several wooden spoons is pretty much all that I can think of.

Plenty more to say but I think that we will leave it there before I say something I might end up regretting later.

You bloody beauty!!! A coach that lost the total respect of the playing group. It was time to change. 4 years with nothing to show. After finals last year, this year has been a disgrace.
The buck stops with the coach.
Wedgie, Pyman was way to complex for the South Adelaide Football Club and seemed to have game plans that were extremely complex and over the top. The players at the end were playing in fear and spite. I also though think the board at South has got alot to answer for too!!!

The Decision to screw Ben Warren around Puzzles me...surely he is a better option than say Twomey, who i know is taller, but Ben is proven, i rate him highly.

I'll second what Southie has to say in regards to Pymans lack of communication. He lost a lot of other people NOT JUST the playing group.

The writing was on the wall. Clearly, it doesn't matter who's at fault, if the coach has failed to gain the players' respect then it is time for the coach to go.
I think the type of coach that is needed at Hickinbotham now is Phil Carman. I don't know if he's thinking about it, but the way he shaped a team at Unley around a bunch of kids, then built on it through intelligent recruiting while being the front man of a new unified Sturt Football Club really makes me think that he is very suitable for South's current dilemma.
A couple of things that stand out from my memories of the dawning of the new era he guided us to.
1-Before we had started our recruiting drive we had basically a strong reserves side playing league, and we went a season without a win. Going out to the three quarter time huddle one day when we were getting pretty badly belted, I wanted to see how Phil would handle the address. He was calm, encouraging, and reminded the group of some key points they needed to remember regarding the game plan. Afterwards I overheard some other supporters saying out loud what I was thinking, there was no use going off at the team, they were basically kids thrust into a role before they were ready. Phil seemed to be doing the right thing for the situation.
2- A couple of years later, out at Noarlunga, we had a new name in the side, Simon Feast, and though we were losing way more than we were winning by this stage, we had come a long way. On that day we were getting belted again, so I went out to the 3/4 huddle to have a look. Phil, was a lot more direct and forceful with his words this time, he talked a lot about attitude and body language, and the effect on team mates. He then addressed Feast directly with the words "...and Feasty don't go standing in the middle of the ground with your hands on your hips and your f*****n head hanging down when they are putting the goals through!" followed by a deathly silence and a steal glinted stare from Carman at his number one ruckman. All eyes seemed to be directed elsewhere as no one appeared willing to return his glare, it really looked as though he had the respect of the group and the determination to bring about his plan. Watching the scene I knew that we'd soon be winning more than we lost, and the bottom end of the table would be a bad memory.
Carman was the man the whole club could rally around. Those days when he lifted us from the foot of the ladder are among my favourite as a Sturt supporter, and is half the reason my user name is "therisingblues". He deserves another crack at coaching SANFL level, and I am sure he'd be able to whip the overpaid group down South in to the exact shape required of a SANFL league footy side.
I'm gonna sit back, crack the top off a Pale Ale, and watch the Double Blues prevail

I felt Carman was given the boot before he'd run his race at Sturt. South need to think outside the square and have 8 weeks to do some serious chasing before possible cantidates are sounded out by other organisations. First question would be why are we a joke, second who was responsible and get rid of all of them, then lastly set about rebuilding with someone who can get the right players to stick with the club and work hard. Premierships are won with hard work and determination and a little talent. Get a little talent involved, then work hard and eventually things will work out with a flag.

I hope South go for him becasue every club knows how he caoches and consequently how South will play so they will be able to plan for it and then beat them like they were doing to Sturt in 2001 (except for Glenelg   ). By the end of 2001 virtually club had the Sturt style under carmen worked out (its simplicity was its beauty (the mantra was KISS - Keep it Simple Sturt) as it didn't need players with great skills)

However by 2001 every other club new that Sturt was always to punch the ball forward, the ball was going to be given to Bruce or Damien to deliver it into the forward lines, Atkinson would be in an under giving it out, Matty Powell would be their primary option coming out of attack, and Burton was going to lead to the side the ball coming down ( a Sturt rule was the ball should never be kicked across the line from the centre of teh goals to the other goal (major axis))

Sturts strength under Carmen its simple game plan had become its weakness and the results showed.

I don't think South will go for him, but hopefully they do.
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!
