They probably want to forego their position in the SANFL this year but come back in next year. Ultimately it will be the AFL that decides how much of a hand out Port get and if that will be enough to fund a reserves team.

I would have thought it would be easier for them to fill a team this year than next, if the list size cuts come. If the Hubs don't happen, why wouldn't they be in the comp this year?

Because they wont be mixing with the disease riddled world outside their little hubs

Pretty certain there both gone. With reduced AFL list sizes it won't be possible. Back to 8 teams as long as there are still 8 teams when this is over.

ya know what that means then, they will want to place their B graders back at the traditional clubs
Yes most likely back to pre Reserve teams. Likely AFL list cut to the mid 30's is the talk at the moment.

8 SANFL sides, a few here so have wet pants about that.

More and more likely there wont be hubs, so the clubs would want their whole list playing somewhere

Dutchy wrote:Norwood fan Kasey van Puijenbroek takes out membership at rival SANFL clubs to help league survive

Passionate SANFL supporter Kasey van Puijenbroek could not sit back and watch a state league club fall apart financially because of COVID-19.

So he took out two memberships at his beloved Norwood, the club he has followed for 34 years since his dad Keith started taking him to games when he was just eight.

And he is now also a member at West Adelaide, Sturt, South Adelaide, Sturt and Woodville-West Torrens after his generous backing of the league.

Van Puijenbroek has even joined Central District, confessing to not being a “huge” fan of the Bulldogs. Hardly surprising for a devoted Redlegs follower.

Glenelg and North Adelaide memberships are on the to-do list. His health has become his priority again though, with more chemotherapy necessary because of brain tumours.

“It is all about supporting the clubs, 100 per cent they need us behind them,” van Puijenbroek, an engineer, said. “I love the SANFL and don’t want any clubs to die.

“The Norwood Football Club represents a happy childhood for me, going to the footy with the old man. It is like a family.”

Van Puijenbroek’s battle with brain tumours started in 2006 and has kept him from games. But he is determined to be at Norwood Oval for the Redlegs’ first game following the resumption of football when his name will be on the players’ jumper.

All fans who have purchased Fortis in Procella merchandise, born by the Redlegs to help in the financial fight created by the coronavirus crisis, will have their name on the jumper and be invited on to the ground to welcome the players back into action.

And it is becoming more likely this will happen in front of the $8 million redevelopment, scheduled for completion in mid-June.

“The club has waited 10 years for this to be built and it could be ready and we not able to use it,” Redlegs chief executive James Fantasia lamented.

“But it could well be the next time we play a game at Coopers Stadium we will be opening the facility. So it could be a celebration of playing football again and the opening of the redevelopment.

“Imagine that on a Friday night, what a night.”

Great bloke is he on this forum?

Why would Port not be in the SANFL this year and going forward? Any list reductions are speculative and wont be happening immediately anyway even if they come to pass. The members want Port to stay and the club has stated they want to stay. The position seems quite clear.

Because you are under control of the AFL now so ultimately they will be the ones who decide the fate of the Magpies

Cost of running an extra team would be an expense the AFL wouldn't want to prop up, especially with the cost most likely being much higher than the equivalent VFL version. I'm sure port will look to blame the SANFL but it's up to the AFL now.

Maybe it could be a directive from the AFL for all clubs this season

Amazing that the SANFL clubs need all the exposure they can get but flog Fiacchi is on the back page of the Advertiser whinging that port should get their zones back, what a joke. Piss off flog. The sooner we get rid of them the better.

I'm confused why Port would want a zone. Their recruitment comes via the draft.

Correct - a nationwide recruitment zone......and a multi million dollar salary cap to go with it.

In 2010 the SANFL Port magpies merged with an AFL franchise-Port Power.
Prior to that the SANFL -holding the AFL license of the Power "helped it out" financially as it was very close to bankrupt on several occasions. In fact the SANFL borrowed money at commercial rates to keep them solvent. The total amounts of these handouts I was told was over 20 mill.
The Power and the magpies merged. The Powers reserve side was named the Magpies for marketing reasons of course, and was granted a license to play in the SANFL. The Port Adelaide Football club is not a member club of the SANFL and hasnt been since 2010. It does not have a delegate on the SANFL and hasnt since 2010. The Power moved to Adelaide Oval but in the week leading up to their first home game were found to be short of $$ and again asked for 1 mill from the SANFL , even though the SANFL had sold the license. The SANFL obliged of course.
The SANFL owe Port Adelaide nothing.

Typical comment by Fiacchi now that things arent going well for them
he sooks it and wants to change the rules.Port wanted to play with the big boys
because they believed they were above playing SANFL level .Suck it up and piss off

I'm sure the people in charge of the SANFL have looked into this but i was just reading on another forum the idea of only letting members attend games. That could be a great way to get more members and $$ for the clubs. The games are played as double headers at Adelaide Oval using every second of third seat for physical distancing.

All 500 of you?
Typical response from Port fans, no mention of how they might fund it, they just put their hand out like they have always done and the money just magically appears

Is Fiacchi officially involved with Port Power? If not its no necessarily Ports opinion.
