I used to think that coaching was a young mans game, however when you look overseas all the major US and Euro sports have very old coaches....experience you cant beat it sometimes....good luck Jack

Some people are good coaches, no matter how old they get.

I think South had an opportunity to achieve sustained success, just like Centrals did a number of years ago. The dogs chose to copy what Port did so well for so long. South are doing the same by grabbing the bloke who was in charge for most of that time. Smart move I reckon, exciting times ahead for South.

I would liken this appointment to that of Ron Barassi at the Sydney Swans in the mid 90's.

I am really pleased by this appointment. I think if Cahill can coach in his style, taking no cr*p and demanding the best, for the next two years the he will build a very strong platform for the club in the future. We really needed someone with a track record and you don't get much better than Cahill's. He wil demand respect and will make players accountable. If they don't mlike it then I am ore than happy to trust his judgement and show them the door. Am looking forward to a positive way forward next season already :-)

BRPB:
The announcemnet to players, staff & officials was at Noarlungua at 5.45pm
However the media briefing was held under embargo (ie not to be broadcast until 5.45pm) at Adelaide Oval earlier that afternoon
Why Adelaide Oval? ... convenience for the media more than anything else.
This way we received a story with footage on all four local news services last night.

Locky801 you are an idiot, if South had not made the move to Noarlunga there would be no South in the SANFL because the club was still broke, no home ground, no chance of increasing revenue. Noarlunga move saved the club from eventual demise. As for the new coach, i like the idea that the coaching commitee is now searching for 2 assistants to mentor under Jack and take over in 2 years time, good planning, i feel that these assistants will be the real story behind this appiontment and the ones to watch closely.

Anyone doubting Jack's ability to still be intouch with the modern game is kidding themselves, he lives and breathes football and as one poster said - you cant beat experience.
Step One: Brand New Leadership Group
If the coach is accountable to team performance, when he is not around surely the leadership group, when Pyman was locked out they should be taking the blame as you'd think it was upto them to control their peers - after all thats why its called leadership....

Great move by South however it will end very badly if the club doesnt not sincerely whole heartedly support the coach. When Jack walks in he will not be quiet and he will not take shit, whether the players like it or not they have one choice - Jack's way or the high way.
Im aware first hand there are some players in the side that ARE over the moon about the appointment, there are also a few that are a little worried as they will now have no excuses and will need to conform to the clubs/jacks vision.

For god sake we are talking about a bunch of cellar dwellers who havent achaived a bloody thing in years yet they think they can dictate to a coach, lock him (Pyman) out of the rooms etc - its one of the most ridiculous things Ive heard and should've been given more attention, were the instigaters dealt with??
Imagine what the under age kids were thinking when they saw/heard about this at panther land. Sorry, that was a pure dig at the playing group gents, not the club or its supporters (many of which share my view) Also please feel free to correct me on any of this aswell.

Jack will do the place well, the playing group will get found out very quickly if they are not committed nor open to his vision. I personally would love to see atleast one of his assistants be a brand new coach to the SANFL and to the playing group - a young and complete independant bloke.

Sorry lads, had to get that off me chest, please feel free to call me a tosser and completely disagree with me, its a forum after all.

Yeah I know I am an idiot but I am just voicing my opinion and my views, you probably know alot more on the South side than I do, but I cannot see how it has increased revenue etc since being at Noarlunga, it's my opinion and I am entitled to that surely, the south have gone backward since the move there, well on the field anyway, wasn't it only 4 months ago a huge media story was done about South making Noarlunga their turf and no-one would beat them there, sorry that didn't happen. As for coaching mentors, well it worked at Alberton with Timmy boy under Jack (not). Leave Jack to coach as he has without trying to mentor others, you may well get a better result :D

George Fiacchi is one name that has been mentioned and looks to be a likely candidate.
