Torrens had a lot more history than Woodville to give up

If you took the Eagle away there would be no West Torrens left in the amalgamation, and if you consider that if the SANFL hadn't stuffed up allowing a 5th team from the western suburbs in 1964 (the beginning of the end for Torrens) you guys would still be playing amatuers.
It's about time you got over it, and give the West Torrens 1/2 of your club the credit they deserve.

Just remember

The Peckers was such a good logo Woodville ditched it in 1982 for the Warriors
Thebarton Oval was such a great oval West Torrens ditched it in 1989 for Football Park
all well prior to any merger

I stauchly support the club in what it has done with the merger over time,

No merger is easy but within that difficult environment I beleive the club has been fair in its decision making,

It took the best of what both had to offer
- the history of the Eagles nickname
- the superior facilities at Woodville (remember at the time of Merger Torrens has a loss making social club, bingo whilst Woodville's was profitable)

There was enough of both elements for supporter to see something of their old club in the new.

I have always said the biggest adjustment Woodville & West Torrens fans had to make was seeing their club win and play finals, let alone play grand finals and win premierships.

Dont forget this is a club that has now played 9 straight finals series.

In recent years, once the club solidified its new identity it has branched out to recognise the history of the two clubs that formed it,
even as a Woodville supporter I have enjoyed seeing games at Thebbe and West Torrens history recognised with the annual jersey. I look forward to seeing what ever plans are for this year.

As for the desertion of fans figures showed that happened for every club when the crows then power came in. I did the stats back in 2006 and the biggest crowd drop from 1990 to 2006 was Glenelg supporters, the least drop was Sturt (may be due to wooden spoon in 1990 and move back to Unley).

Every club lost fans with the AFL entry in SANFL, Woodville & West Torrens fans just had an extra excuse than the others to explain their desertion.

What excites me about the new logo is that is a new branding for the club (whereas the old version was a West Torrens update).

We are fast approaching 20 years since the merger, there has been a lot to enjoy and celebrate in that time.

Got to have to lose it, no surprise we had "lost" the most from 1990 to 2006 given the size of our supporter base (not as big as Port and Norwoods I'll grant you) and our success (or lack of it)

However easy to see plenty of Bays supporters were "found" come 1st Semi Final day...hopefully will have to find a second bandwagon this year if the improvement we showed in 2007 continues in 2008...
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

I was under the impression the combined club could make more money from selling the club rooms West Torrens fully owned at Thebarton and that was the main reason Woodville was chosen.

And I'm not sure West Torrens playing home games out of Footy Park in 1989 was because Thebby was (or wasn't as you have put it) "such a great oval"

It was an era where clubs were centralising locations as almost all the AFL clubs are doing now (and some were doing back then). South and Sturt were at Adelaide Oval as well.

I have no problems with Woodville Oval. The grassy hills are great with the low crowds we now get to games. The club rooms overlooking the oval from the northern end are sensational. It's a great place to have as the home of the club I'll always support. However, having a couple of home games at Thebby each year has meant a hell of a lot to a lot of people and Thebarton Oval has that real league football atmosphere and history that Woodville doesn't generate. The stands are in a much better location (and look better) than Woodville.

I think the Eagles are lucky to have Woodville Oval as their home and Thebby as their 2nd home. I hope it is always that way and our club, which is one club, but has a shared history, always remains strong.

I just feel for the Yo Yo manufacturers who have been overlooked in this rush towards non-circular corporate logos

Once again a supporter from a club that has problems beating the EAGLES on field .To bad your mob didnt fold not to long ago. Then again the Eagles need a team they can beat often.
Woodville is a better oval to watch footy at than unley as well.

Go the mighty Eagles . I am one fan who has accepted the merger and like Phil said I enjoy finals football and i enjoy winning a flag

Here here Ian. For far too long all I've heard is ex woodville supporters whine when it's clear they got the better of the merger. It's about time both torrens and woodville supporters of old just got on with the job at hand and that is supporting the Woodville West Torrens Football Club. We are one club stop living in the past and support the best side in the SANFL today. GO WWTFC EAGLES !!!

I can't believe that nearly, as someone else put it, 20 years down the track this conversation still exists!
Mickyj I was having no dip, just getting emotional over such a delicate discussion!
Think about it, the SANFL would be a very second rate comp without any of either the Double Blues, North, Norwood or Port!

well mickyj , as i said , it is only my opinion from an outsider looking in.after wining two premiships since the merger, fans from both camps would have to be happy with that, but i wasnt talking about sucsess, more so appearence, and im affraid with that huge eagal on the front of your gurnsey, west torrons always comes to mind. as far as the mighty bloods are concerned mickyj, and thanks for asking, we are very focused, ready to claw our way of the bottom, theres only one way for us to go so beware next time our two teams clash

Well after last year we are 1 each
and as was stated being called eagles etc is a small part of the club being based at woodville is also a small part .All the small parts add up to one big club called Woodville West Torrens. And while 2 flags are great etc WWT should have won more that that ,this is something the club will fix very shortly.
Geez bring on the footy
