And my mail is Perrie's struggling for fitness.
Sturt will be lucky to get one year out of Perrie being a 'handy' forward but the Bays have got a real star in Grima.
The forward they've been missing for about a decade.
Im honestly surprised Central missed out on 2 full forwards that they were chasing.

You are right Wedgie we did chase both the players you mentioned, but im quite close to people who are involved in the recruiting and from my understanding recruiting a full-forward this year was what they called a low-priority recruit. We never pushed too hard to get Stewart because the club have realised the importance of recuriting other areas at this stage. Im sure if the club was to go at there hardest for him they may have got him. Here's a list of players we have available to play full=forward.

D.Havelberg
L.Cowan
H.Lawry
D.Schell
M.Westoff (will see heaps of him this year)
J.Westoff (may see a little of him, his only a few bad trial games away from coming back)

So getting another gun tall forward was probably going over-kill when the salary cap means you have to get value for positions.

I know how you feel Jimmy not one Bays supporter has said we'll win the flag this year but still some (not all) opposition supporters think er're getting ahead of ourselves and are already making room in our trophy cabinet for Tom (mind you there IS plenty of room in our cabinet)
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

i too was a little skeptical about perrie and the jury is still out but rick has been great since coming here and will use perrie the best he can and where he thinks he will have the best impact, whether that be as the extra tall, ala stephen white, or pinch hit in the ruck if needed and even fill in down back as our regular FB gregory is coming along slower than expected.

I think 2 years minimum from Perrie and then see how it goes after that as we have quite a few young guys coming through the ranks to play up forward.

FWIW

The Sarge is lookin super fit and his leadership on the track is awesome !!!

I think you took it out of context Jimmy.
It was just reminding me of when all the bookies and supporters were tipping South to be top last year. It did not happen and blew up in our faces.
I was really saying the bookies and some supporters might get a shock and like you said some supporters have tipped them out the 5 but I do know some (not on this site) that predict a GF spot.
Just relax mate and see how it pans out.
Is out of change.....thanks Cambridge Clarrie!!!

I think we get the picture of your overall post, but the highlighted passage sounds a lot like the avalanche of complaints we had to deal with last year. What's ironic about it is that avalanche was usually started as a result of some praise written by a neutral fan about Sturt. A similar situation to what we have here with a Glenelg fan starting a thread titled "Sturt Favourites".
I think we are entitled to reply that no Sturt fans are making that claim just yet.
We'll be seeing how it pans out, like you said.
I'm gonna sit back, crack the top off a Pale Ale, and watch the Double Blues prevail

fwiw these are my odds pre trial game form

central 6/4....obviously hard to beat
north 13/4....grand finalist, sure to go close although ruck is a querey
glenelg 13/4....'alledgedly' recruited well sure to improve on last year
sturt 5/1......should be thereabouts again
wwt 7/1......can the new recruits cover the loss of retired class players
port 8/1....tries very hard but maybe 2 or 3 players short
west 8/1......recruited best of all teams sure to be a hope of the 5
norwood 400/1....same problem as usual not enough goalkickers in the team
south 1000/1....rebuilding, perhaps in 2 or 3 years
i thought secret groups were a thing of the past, well not on websites anyway

Serious question, do you bay blokes rate Mickan? I certainly do. But I don't know much about "pre-Mickan" to say much (I lived in Melbourne up till the 03 season).

Cheers

Mickan is very well respected and rated at teh Bay, especially amongst teh supporters. Fair to say our ill-fated 2004, 2005 slogan "strong and united" would be applicable now....

Is that general consensus from Bay fans though?

Just getting back on the Sturt thread, I think Rick MacGowan is great for the club, and I think ANYTHING that helps the SANFL is a good thing.

My old man is heavily involved with the Roosters, so I hear a bit about Jars, and again, he's great for the comp.

There is another thread that asks about the SANFL being stronger than the VFL, and I don't know about that, but their profile has lifted immensely in recent years which I think is sensational! I'm closer (as a fan) to the SANFL and VFL than the AFL which is becoming way to elitist for me. I still support the navy blues but it's distancing itself from what it used to be.

Bayman, I think you have to be exceedingly fit, and exceedingly mentally strong to play AFL. I say mentally strong because you have to deal with tools in white/orange/green/yellow who fight against every fibre of your origin. I'm starting to think I'd rather watch something else.

BTW, that's good about Mickan. I played an indoor cricket game against him about 4 or 5 years ago and even in the heat of the moment he seemed like he was pretty level headed and a good bloke. I've been nothing BUT impressed by him and his effect on the bays. Good luck this year.
