AFL not caring about the SANFL isnt the problem.

The SANFL not caring about the SANFL is.

What was once a huge potential surplus to chuck in the bank and run the comp off the interest has now turned into a few coins floating about under the couch cushions. I'm sure they'll be able to run a thriving and successful comp with those though.

So you are saying that the world economy has resulted in real estate values at Westlakes plumeting?

Land at west lakes would still be worth a crap load. Just make sure the sanfl set up a nice big pokie palace before they cut the power and crowd loose.

The SANFL will soon liquify FP, AFC & PAFC..... service its debt then do what??????
A pokie palace is a waste of time as 'that boat has sailed'.

Maybe a one off merger incentive with the money to get Sturt & West together as SANFL club income is unlikely to rise...... (If the clubs still want to exist in their own right let them do so as strict amateurs in the SAAFL).

The reality of the situation is that Sturt, West & Port Magpies have to solve the problems for themselves if the want to continue or drop out. The reality is SANFL income is unlikely to increase so these clubs have to put in some hard yards. Maybe state league football wont be sustainable in the future.... who knows?????

We may end up with a terrible situation as with the AFL of the haves (WWT, SA & NA), the survivors and the have-nots.

The AFL licences ... most probably.

Football Park ... not likely.

I stand corrected, but the SANFL intends to keep Footy Park for a while longer.

Whilst some land may be sold off or developed, and the stadium downgraded, the SANFL will still own a substantial asset. The big change will be that the SANFL will attempt to derive revenue from commercial ventures outside of football on the site.

The remaining assets are proposed to kept as a 'future fund'.

At least that indicates they are aware that a future exists. They're more aware than I gave them credit for.

ie very AFL branded, mainly there to develop AFL players, handle AFL reserves sides, not be a comp in its own right

Even with the current salary cap its hard for SANFL clubs to stop mature veterans going to the suburban / country.

If it was ever lowered to match VFL, WAFL, NEAFL levels we would as Doug Roberston predicted about 8 years back mainly an U22 comp.

The VFL & WAFL are not second to the SANFL by any means......
Go to the SANFL HQ and see what a second rate organisation it is for yourself

SANFL is the 2nd best comp in the land not because of Norwood and how it would go against Claremont and Port Melbourne. The good clubs in each of the three major state leagues are very similar in abilities IMO. Same for when Centrals Geelong and Subi were dominating their respective comps five years ago.

The strength of the SANFL is that Sturt and South would give Frankston and Collingwood in the VFL and Peel and Perth in the WAFL a good touch up. The strength of the SANFL is its depth of talent.
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

The strength of the SANFL is that it doesn't field teams whose raison d'être is to provide second-string AFL players with match fitness.

Norwood + West + North + Centrals + Eagles + Port + Glenelg + South + Sturt = SANFL
Norwood + North + Centrals + Eagles + Glenelg + South = ?

I have a few suggestions for ? = buggered, crap, finished.

We have to all work to keep those 3 clubs alive with the SANFL taking the lead or the SANFL and the member clubs will all fade away into history and we can start watching football in the parklands.

I agree to both, charging $14 to go to the SANFL is madness. Should be $10 max, but more like $5 or $8 and watch the crowds come back.

Still agree the AFL need to do more, but when they do try like the Foxtel Cup etc, SANFL clubs, fans thumb their noses up to it. Sometimes clubs need to do what is best for the code and not what is best for them.

The AFL need a strong SANFL, VFL and WAFL.

Spot on Booney. I came on here to write those exact words and then saw your post.

The way the SANFL have managed the competition over the last decade is an outrage.
