Good sides dont let umpires get the opportunity to decide a game with one decision.

p it doesn't come into consideration if you follow the Gays getting within 100 points should be you're next concern

Tell that to the supporters of Sturt in the 1978 GF!

Close games should not be decided by a very bad umpiring error even though as you point out they make mistakes all through the game.

Fair points but i still blame George Thring more than the umpire that made the last decision. 40 out, directly in front, no breeze and would have put us 9 points up. No excuse for a player of his ability. I'm sure he is more frustrated than anyone about that too.

Just saw the vision on Ch 9 news and you cannot see high contact as Campbell was running away from the camera, he did have prior opportunity however and the ump was 5m from the incident

After a match winning move putting Sumner forward last week, Godden started with Giuffreda forward this week and he kicked 3 goals and created a couple more, before shifting back to defence in the 3rd. Given Giuffreda had kicked 1 career goal prior to his 3 today, it was a pretty creative move. Also thought the Eagles ruckman did well. Borholm has improved out of sight with the added responsibility and Heinjus has been impressive getting his hands on the ball and following up in the clearances. It doesn't get any easier next week against West, but with wins the last two weeks the Eagles have moved well clear of 6th spot and have a chance to displace West in the 3 if they can win at Richmond on Saturday.

Is this the same North supporters from the North v Norwood game at Prospect last year ? As for the Sturt v Norwood 1978 Grand Final, Sturt had 3 shots at goal after the so called Gallagher mark to put them back in front and butchered them all. Bad kicking cost them that day not that decision. I have to agree about Hawthorn though, they are fast becoming the new West Coast!

Just come back from a post match dinner and amazed at so many comments so quickly.

Reading through them have I got this right?

Game ALL EVEN at three quarter time.

In the final quarter the Eagles had 3 scoring shots.

North had 6 .... and lost

And the result is the umpires fault.

Spewing I missed this game. What a fantastic result, and Patty kicking three goals is simply unbelievable. Saw the vision on channel nine of Goldy's after the siren winning goal which he only just kicked. It was clear that prior opportunity was there, legitimate attempt was not so clear. The umpire was right there. 1.5 in last quarter really cost north.

I'd be more concerned how experienced commentators like coffee and DB can go through a match calling thompson has taken a mark, or thompson has the ball, or great play by thompson, without throwing in a christian name or at least what club one of the two thompsons was playing for. More frustrating than any umpiring!!!

Good Call in the pre match thread by RB for the eagles to win the game after the final siren, Goldy was there to take the kick instead of Grocke though.

True, but umpires only have to adjudicate. Don't require skill under pressure.

Just glad I wasn't there to see it.

You dont think making a decision in front of goal, in the last minute of the game, when scores are less than a goal apart doesn't fall under executing "skills under pressure"?
