Norwood and the Highlander

All discussions to do with the SANFL

with Barzaar reportedly firing along now on the Unley shopping precinct and Norwood set to open their pokies parlour things are finally looking up for these two 'traditional powers'.
One small word of caution though, the current love affair with pokie revenue that the 9 clubs have now should be tempered a bit. Pressure is only going to build on the state govt to reduce or get rid of the machines altogether. There are some powerful vested interests that will probably ensure that this never happens but pressure is building.

Some awesome news for Norwood supporters at tonight's AGM! Our Pokies should be up and running in around 15 weeks as we have entered a deal with Tom Hanna(?) and the owner of the Highlander Stephen King(?) where they will basically manage the pokies for us, eliminating the Highlanders appeal and now The Highlander is on board with the NFC!
Bit sketchy but I'm sure more official press releases than mine are soon to follow, but as I understand it we are only waiting for the licensing board to approve our management team which appears to be 99% certain to happen.

It's a management consultancy arrangement with the proprietor of the Highlander, not with the Hotel itself), that is proposed but remains to be confirmed with a signature to the details. It is not a capital partnership and is somewhat different to the Sturt and Port partnership arrangements, (without having all the intimate details at hand).

No doubt the financial arrangements will be commercial in confidence.

Excellent, I was a bit concerned when I heard a "deal" had been entered into but that sounds good. Would have been very costly and perhaps the end of Norwood if it had to get dragged through the Supreme Court and its good the hotel was willing to compromise.

What a competition we're going to have in a few years time when the club will be on similar footing.

There's a bigger job at hand than that - winning the premiership in 30 weeks! :D

Admittedly 15 weeks does sound optimistic but at least there's some action for all to finally see. HOORAY! 8)

Can anyone help me out here?

Norwood's new facility will have a dining room (capacity 80), a gaming area (70), a lounge (10) and a dry bar (20) - how does this compare to say Grand North or The Eagles Club?

Can't help you WR, but does gaming area (70) mean 70 pokies? I thought it was 40 max in any venue outside of the casino?

The numbers refer to seating/crowd capacity.
