Aerie wrote:Another ho-hum game against weak opposition. The Eagles have done what they needed to do in the last fortnight and that is get enough percentage built to go above Sturt. Glenelg have done us some favours by beating North and Sturt so we now sit in 2nd spot unlikely to lose the double chance. Even if both Sturt and us lose next week the difference would need to be greater than about 13 goals for them to go above us.

The highlight of the game for me today was the return of Nick Salter. He is turning into a very good footballer at this level and his 6 goals were all class. Passador and Schwarze also kicked 6 each. Passador unfortunately jagged his hammy with 10 minutes to go in the game so would expect him to miss some footy. Inkster also went off with a leg injury after a collision. Luckily we had Grocke and Symmons in the reserves today who would come straight back in if these guys are injured. Also had Lomas and Colville out today so there is plenty of depth.

Petrenko was impressive off the back flank in his first game. Wouldn't mind seeing him pushed up to a wing or on a forward flank, but he did enough today to go again next week. I though Peter Fiacchi was one of our better players in his 100th game and Bernie Vince was solid again.

In both the first halves this week and last week we have played some ordinary footy and we'll have to lift to get to where we need to be for Glenelg next week and then finals. Some sloppy sheperding and a couple of occasions where commitment wasn't 100% going back in to a pack needs to be rectified, but besides that things are looking good.

Well written Summary Aerie.Pity about Passador and Inkster .
From my vantage point up in the stand the EAGLES forward line lacked one Brodie Lomas .It was apparent that the EAGLES lacked that in and under player with pace .
Fiacchi in his 100th game was a star.
Petrenko lived up to his hype and will only get better with more games before he gets picked up by an AFL team .
Salter owned the ball up forward and that pocket at the southern end he also owned kicking some fantastic goals .And I'm not sure what Rons plans for Salter are, but he was playing on ball at one stage and late in the last term he was a lose man in defence. And he stopped the panthers with a timely mark in front of the grandstand.
And all the tall forwards kicked goals BUT they still didn't seem to fit in too well or gel with one and other . If Passador goes out Groecke back in and kenny mac to FF.

BUT the Eagles need to improve their decision making down back we gave south at least 3 goals today can not afford to do that against Glenelg.

Go you mighty EAGLES

Nick Salter was outstanding for the Eagles today. His marking and kicking for goal were excellent and he seems to have the rare ability to make something out of nothing in a contested situation. He is improving with each game and could be a real star for us in the finals.

Overall, our first half was pretty ordinary and our second half was very good, just like last week. But we will certainly need to play four consistent quarters in the finals.

Great win ensuring double chance - we must be either second or third.

As Ron Fuller said tonight at presentations still areas to improve - we can and should get better.

Next week will be a beauty heading into finals football.

Unless we lose by more than about 13 goals than Sturt lose by. But, it shouldn't happen!

I dont believe the 2 big games of Eagles v Bays and North v Sturt will see huge differences in scores - so think today's % changes will see the Eagles second or third. Best way to ensure this is to win next week.

Kenny controlled CHF and kept the ball there for the other forwards - with Salter, Passador and Schwarze 6 each

Kenny took about 9 or 10 marks so was really great in feeding others - strength was excellent - so for Crows could be a strong marking option?? Hopefully he stays with us.

Was great to see the Woodville guys from 72 there today plus a few Torrens guys too and also Crows players there to support their SANFL team - Rob Shirley made sure he spoke to all in the rooms afterwards.

Mcgregor was double teamed and sometimes had three on him in marking contests

yes Salter is something special, he just need to get it into his head that if he really applies himself he would make it into the afl, scouts no doubt would be watching closely now

Bernie Vince again turned it on, this guy is going to put his mark on the afl next year

we have the most potet forward line in the sanfl!

I thought it was a given that Petrenko play today, because if he gets drafted and he's played league doesn't the club get a bigger payment from his AFL side?? He deserved to be there, great speed and skills, didn't seem to put a foot wrong. Pity we wont have him for long.

Thought Jarrad and Treeby didn't have their best games today, esp in the first half.

Nick Salter is a gun, some of the goals he kicked on the run were great.Hope he plays many many games for the Eags.

I'm going to have to get the video of this match, and the Norwood match if only for the two best bits of plays I have seen this year. Todays, I can't remember what happened before it (there was a couple of Eagles possessions), but Vince took a mark, turned around on the run and instantly passed it to Passador who marked on the lead. I was stunned at that play, it was just terrific. Does anyone else remember that and can elaborate?

And McGregor did play well today, he only kicked 1 goal but he played better today than his "BOG" effort against North. And Vince for that matter did well too.

Kenny greatly impressed me yesterday with his game .He looked like he was doing things with the footy straight away that he normally would think about and then stuff up or appear to be to slow.
But that one goal of his was fantastic it looked like he going to handball or pass .Instead he settled down the siren went and he kicked a 50 metre goal.
I being a former West torrens fan was impressed with the club for having a former great Woodville player toss the coin. Its been a great thing at every home game to have former club greats to toss the coin and it was nice on a WOODVILLE day to have a WOODVILLE player do it.Thumbs up WWT football club.

Spell_check......that passage of play from "Weekend" was sensational. You forgot to mention that Bernie was running towards the boundary and some how with his left foot managed to to do a left foot pass (60% hook) to Pass who was leading straight up the ground from FF. How he ever saw Pass and then managed to hit him on the chest was extraordinary.

Oh dear.

http://www.news.com.au/adelaidenow/stor ... 46,00.html

Torrens give South a thrashing

September 01, 2007 07:53pm

WEST Torrens has kept a firm grip on their top-three position beating South Adelaide by 103 points at Woodville Oval today.
In a reasonably slow-paced game of football, the Eagles demonstrated their hunger to win through slick execution of skill, and good use of turnovers.

A damaging third quarter was marked by Mark Passador kicking four goals - of his total six - and Nick Salter kicking three.

The Eagles back line was impressive, managing to divert South's limited efforts away from the goal square and still create spare players to take control of the ball when the Panthers missed their target.

Ben Warren put in an admirable effort, kicking four goals, but he was alone as the rest of South's goal scorers were singles only

That's right, it was like he knew exactly where the leading forward would be, and it went straight to Passador.

Here is a question for cd - are you able to provide the total hit out stats for both teams that the stats guys did yesterday? And as well, the total kicks and handballs?

The newspaper only has a total of 37 hit outs for both sides, and I was wondering if the stats are close to what they actually were? We had 25 less disposals than South; and the marks South had didn't surprise me.
