Andrew "Mozzie" Moritz was unable to go to another league club for the last 2 years because NAFC put a ludiculous price on his head ($15,000) claiming he was in their best 50 or whatever number of players they can list. This sort of rubbish has been going on for decades where SANFL clubs put prices on the heads of players whom they don't want but won't clear them to another club. Cameron Staples is another who comes to mind. Moz played for Broadview in 2007 and Bute in 2008. Moz was extremely badly treated in 2006 by NAFC when he played the full season in the Reserves (plus one league game in which he played very well but was then dropped next match). Then when it came to the Grand Final he was unceremoniously dumped. Let's hope he gets a better go at South because his 2 year period of "price on his head" has lapsed. A highly skilled left-footer he is one player who could put a pass on a teammates chest with the precision of heart surgeon.

It's about time the SANFL stepped in to stop this "price on a players head" garbage.

Saw him play at North Adelaide and I thought he was more than servicible, good pick up for Souths, I was surprised when jarman let him go

Moritz is not up to league standard. Not even close. Hope he proves me wrong but i doubt it.

Agreed 100%.

Just read over on the VFL forum that former Carlton big man Adrian DeLuca is making a comeback to the VFL after a couple of season out of the game and is training out at the Gary Ayres coached Port Melbourne, last seasons VFL runner's up.

Interestingly, his younger brother, former Port Power and Sturt aligned ruckman Fabian DeLuca is also training with the Boroughs. Looks like big Fabs might be keen to stay back in his hometown of Melbourne so Sturt may miss out on him ???

Where is this VFL forum Big Phil?

So, Arch is back from his sojourn and Britain and Europe?

I hear that Fa (who I had the pleasure of coaching for 2 years as a junior) was going to Frankston...but then again, my source may have mixed up his unaligned VFL teams!

I think it was mentioned on this thread a few pages back but Sturt officially announced a new signing, Matthew Payne from Zilmere Eagles in Qld.

Sturt's web site wrote:Matthew Payne signs with the SFC

Against some strong competition from other SA & WA League Clubs, the Sturt Football Club is pleased to announce the recent signing of Matthew Payne. Matthew has been recruited from the Queensland club Zilmere Eagles and is due to arrive in January to start training with the Double Blues.

Matthew has been a recruiting target for some time given his pivotal role in the Zilmere midfield, and won the Club's Best and Fairest this year. He and Luke Crane played together at Zilmere and are good mates. “In 2007 the Club tried to recruit him but we were unsuccessful at the time – we are delighted we have gone one better in 2009” said Sturt’s Football Manager Duane Massey.

“Matthew was runner up in the Grogan Medal, the QAFL’s version of the Magarey Medal, and he played State Football as well this year for Queensland kicking 5 goals in their game against WA – he is a fantastic scoop for us” Duane added.

Payne is originally from Rosebud Football Club in Victoria and went to Zilmere - where he has played for the last 4-5 years.

The Club is very excited to have such a wonderful player joining us in 2009 and look forward to seeing Matthew in Adelaide shortly after Christmas.

Just read on AFL.com that former St. Kilda ruckman Michael Rix, linked to West Adelaide here in the SANFL, is being looked at by Michael Voss and the Brisbane Lions as a possible Pre Season Draft recruit...

Kym Morgan on 5RPH has just mentioned on the Summer Sports Show that there is word coming out of Melbourne that Essendon are considering taking Sturt ruckman Angus Kirtze in the Pre Season Draft ???

With DeLuca likely to stay in Melbourne and Feasty retiring Sturt would have been pinning its hopes on Kurtze leading the ruck and having the returning Jake Bowen as his back up. Would leave Luke Norman in a bit of trouble in the big man department if Kurtze became a Bomber ???

By the way where is Cameron Staples playing these days and why did he leave North?

Spot on and in the case of Moritz - he never really set the world on fire in his time at North hence why he didn't play more senior football plus he also had some "off field" issues.

He really ticks all the boxes as a potential recruit.

Will the Eagles have a decent plan "B" and "C" now that they didn't get Skipworth and have lost a potential league ruckman in Christain Bock.

Plan "Bs" lately have been Toia, Schwarze and Biagi..........not a very good back-up record.

And Sam Jacobs was re-drafted by Carlton as a rookie...

Lets hope for the Eagles sake Dabrowski and Biglands can do the job for a few years in case they don't get Jacobs or Bock back.
