Funny, one of the biggest dickheads in football media throws out a few lines on The Footy Show, one of the great news breaking programs, and all hell breaks loose.

I asked my 21yo daughter, she went to 20 SANFL games, 40 if you include that she was there for all the reserves too.
She went to 3 AFL games, one at Adelaide Oval and two at the MCG including the Grand Final which she had a free ticket to (big Killers fan).
The only others I know in their 20s don't follow the AFL at all.
Edit: 4 AFL games, I forgot about the Etihad game between St Kilda and Collingwood you gave us free tix to Booney! :)

She's a trainer with South Adelaide, yes?

Slightly skewed, but the at least the survey is underway. :D

You simply asked us to ask everyone we know in our 20s . I did.

I asked my lad.

9 AFL games, 1 in Melbourne, 2 SANFL games, although he says he can't remember one as we got on it in the bowling club.

I respectfully disagree with your second point --- the crows are insisting the league sticks to the football park training facility and oval for 15 years (from memory) so it seems that the crows also need to honour the business agreement to have a team in the sanfl for similar 15 year period and as such if they want to leave competition then surely would need to buy thier way out of the commercial contract.

That presuming the soft bend over sanfl commision has not allowed a get out of jail free clause to be included in said commercial agreement

No worries leave for free.

But you want to play afl reserves in sa. We need to create a new contract for that agreement.

He gets his mail from guys like Eddie in the media. The Melbourne AFL clubs have it on their agenda and we all know that when Eddie, Kennett and co say their piece it isn’t far away

Allow me to summarise
AFL should be out of the SANFL, but SANFL should be compensated for it, and then paid ongoing fees for AFL reserves to play in SA

The fact the sanfl is the controlling Body of all football within sa.

You want to start a brand new football league and play games within sa. You will need the controlling body of sa footballs approval.

Der!!!!!

Why do you think the sanfl had to vote the afl clubs into our league. Why didn’t the afl just state this is what is happening.

No authority maybe !!

Whose going to provide umpires. Afl going to fly them interstate for a curtain raiser ??

The AFL wouldn't need the approval of the SANFL, or anyone else. The SANFL is affiliated with most football leagues in SA, but it does not 'control' football. It isn't illegal to play a game of football in SA without the SANFL's approval.

As for your second point, of course the AFL sides needed approval to enter a competition the SANFL actually runs.

valleys07 wrote:Absolutely we were close to death. VERY close.

I did say the SANFL has been dying a slow death for years.

If the national reserves comp gets off the ground and the SANFL goes back to an 8 team comp, as has been mentioned, the challenge for SANFL execs will be to appeal to the next generation.

FWIW- I would hate to see one of the oldest sporting comps in Australia die, and hope that it can strengthen itself moving forward.

That's been the challenge for twenty years, and it is a challenge.

If anything though, having AFL reserves sides in the SANFL made this challenge harder, because it meant that young kids were more likely to follow the AFL sides rather than the eight traditional clubs. At least removing the reserves sides would give the traditional clubs a point of difference.

You only have to look at the decline in crowds since the reserves sides entered the comp to know that the reserves sides didn't help the cause at all.
