How about:

Round 1 Power Reserves V Crow Reserves
Round 2 Crows Reserves v Power Reserves
Round 3 Power Reserves V Crow Reserves

Continue Alternating over 22 Rounds.

Top 2 qualify for the grandfinal.

+1 from me.

The top two sides in the AFL don't have reserves sides - :-? Out of the eight, St Kilda, Geelong, Western Bulldogs, North Melbourne, Richmond, Brisbane and bottom placed Melbourne do.

The survey results will mean nothing. Most of us dont give a rats clacker whether they have a reserve team or not - it's which comp they will play in that is the issue..

Although I agree to an extent, even if they have a team in the VFL reserves I think there could be a couple of drawbacks.
One, is the cost. In excess of $300,000 per team could be required, which also could be utilised by the SANFL if there were no reserves. Having said that, if they got rid of one of their twenty assistant coaches the money could come from there. The other drawback is players that would be good in the SANFL competition could be "encouraged" to play for the AFL reserves team (as top up players) on a promise (empty or not) that they'd have a greater chance of playing AFL if they were to play in the reserves team. This could reduce the depth and standard of the SANFL.

The main issue is not whether or not the Crows or Power should have have a reseves team.

I accept the Crows and Power have the right to decide if their surplus players should be together or not.

What is the main issue is where this reserves team would play.

Anywhere but the SANFL League Comp is fine by me.

The incessant whiny little bleating from the two Adelaide AFL teams does my head in.

Combined they spent nearly $50M dollars on players and football departments yet they can't afford to go to the VFL and run their reserves teams? Give me a break. Maybe lay off some of the dead wood, the Crows have a full time leadership consultant FFS, and they might be able to afford to fly these guys over to Melbourne once a week.

I do hope the irony of the Crows and the West Coast Eagles absolutely flying near the top of the ladder isn't lost on the handful of people calling for them to have a reserves team, god forbid they did we might as well call the AFL season off they'd be that far ahead of the rest.

As for the Power, well they can make as many limp excuses as they like but if players like Salopek aren't playing well enough to be picked in a league team maybe they should look at their own development structures rather than blaming the club where the player spends little more time than on game day itself.

=D>

And I will say it again, the NEAFL fly interstate to play games, the NRL, cricket and A-League all have National reserves comps so it cant be that hard or expensive in Australia's richest sport.

I just think they dont want to go play in an inferior comp.

Whiny and bleating seem to come naturally to you Topsy, no wonder you recognise it so easily.

The PAFC is on record saying it won't buy into the Reserves Team debate. If I have Glenelg mates scratching their heads as to why Salopek was dropped, surely Matthew Primus is entitled to do the same?

Maybe they should let Primus and Gotch know, unless they've broken that record.
