Anyone else heard that a current league coach from another club had applied and interviewed for the role? His CV would put him in front of Mattner if true.

You beauty!
Success breeds success. Mattner is a much loved premiership veteran with Sturt and the Sydney Swans.

Champion. His run down tackle and winning the ball in the last few minutes of the 2012 gf will never be forgotten

Talking to a Norwood under 18 player, during his end of season meetings was very angry at being let go. Might have a few players follow him

We'll have to wait and see about that, interesting peice of info though.
Great to have home back at Unley, sounds as though he's found his football niche.

Must have had North people on the selection panel then given that before McGregor was appointed, the NAFC didn't even interview 2 much better credentialed coaches - both of whom are still coaching currently in the SANFL.
Piss weak SANFL and the CLOWNS who run it.

I have it on good authority that the two people interviewed for the position were Mattner and Godden. Godden was under plenty of pressure prior to this year and has a relationship with Shane Grimm (Sturt Footy GM). Not sure which of the two was the first choice, perhaps Godden thought better of moving or perhaps Mattner was more impressive candidate?? Interested to see if someone had a crack at headhunting him in 12 months time........

It is confirmed that Chris Hall is going to be Mattner's assistant. Has two premierships including this year's as a playing coach with the Mannum Football Club. Anyone who took the time to hear him speak would have been impressed. His dedication to the job was sensational.
All I can say to you Sturt guys is "You lucky, lucky ba****ds"
All round decent guy with a huge footy brain.
Good luck Hally. Go Sturt!
