well just got back from the game (sounds like mal and Stampy didnt make it)....first point it was Norwood fans booing Glenelg off the oval....it wasnt Glenelg fans

very very disappointed tonight with what I saw, lack of game plan, lack of spirit, lack of leadership (excuse the BM's), dont blame the poor kicking for goal as most were shots on the run under pressure, the set shots we had where fromt he pockets....we went every way except direct...Ill leave the rest for SL

well done to Norwood, talking to a Norwood player before the 1st round and they were still doing hard pre-season running right up to the week before the season started...benefits of this are now being shown, coming off a 6 day break they were very strong and quick in the 2nd half....Aish is definately something special

I was interested int he crowd though....where has all the Norwood fans gone? stands only 1/3 full and outnumbered on Coopers Hill....get out there your team is playing some good footy

Considering you guys have won 12 flags and they've won 4, you can perhaps go back 70 years at least!;)

I dont know how many coaches the club has been through, yet Richmond certainley have had a number and that seems to go hand in hand with a lack of success.

I dont think anything would be gained by the sacking of Mark Mickan despite his record. My thoughts is that Glenelg need more resources and that requires increased revenue streams to make that happen. I dont have the figures yet I recall that their pokies room isnt going great as opposed to some of what the other SANFL clubs are taking. The area near the club is expensive real estate and statistically those areas be it club or hotel do poorly for pokie revenue as compared to areas regarded as low socio-economic.

Get a solid stream of $$$ into the club and Glenelg will come good again.

Whilst I don't disagree with your point surely profit is more important than turnover?
It doesn't matter if you turnover 100 million dollars if you still lose money.
Even if turnover was important I'd make an educated guess that Glenelg were no longer 2nd in that category.

Well dutchy, what's the problem then?
Glenelg should be strong, all the time, yet they're not...why?

agreed but its also hard to make Profits if you dont have turnover...I think we are all smart enough to know that Pokie turnover = profits no matter what

Also how many other clubs have a convention centre that generates revenue from weddings etc etc????? Maybe Soj would like to answer that?

I think most clubs would have facilities to generate revenue from weddings perhaps with the exception of Norwood and Sturt.

Sturt's is a place that is more suited to holding 21sts and the like than weddings. it still brings in $$$$$$$ but just not as much

Rather than call in at hotels for dinner I have taken up with visiting the various SANFL clubs, last time I called into Glenelg at a Saturday lunchtime their dining room was closed, the pokies were open and I estimate that there would have been some three or four people in there playing.

On every occassion that I have been to the Glenelg club I have never seen the pokie area anything like full, I have however been in the South club and the Central club and seen people queuing up to get on a machine. Grand North on Grand Junction rd is another that I often see the car park full on a weeknight on the way home from work!

think there is a difference between a convention centre set up apart from a footy clubrooms that can be turned into a very small entertainment area...anyway thats a discussionf or another thread

Agreed, quite often even though I live a distance away if I want a feed or a go of the pokies the Mrs and I will head to the Holdy as its a great pub, that's competition the Bay doesn't need and doesn't even take into account other pubs very close by.
If I was around Noarlunga I wouldn't hesitate in going to Noarlunga, a lot more appealing than the Colonnades, Porty or CB.
There's nothing around the Grand Central I'd consider going to.
There's nothing around the Northern Tavern or Grand North if I was visiting someone in Yatala. :D
Westies has a good space around it as the pubs in the area aren't doing a lot IMHO.
Eagles have a great setup, been there for lunch myself whilst not considering anything in the area.
Besides game day I wouldn't even consider walking into the Bay Oval with the great pubs near it, its all about the walk in dollar.
Christ, even one game day I had to go to the Holdy to appease the crowd on the hill as the GFC couldn't cater for them.
