What a fabulous ending.

How long ago was it that the crowd noise was so great you could not hear the final siren...!

Great to be there.

Heh heh, I'm soooo glad to be wrong on that one. Mock me if you will but I will be enjoying the $20 I put on the boys at the last minute at $4.60 thank you very much!!!!

WOW! I'm still lost for words after yesterday. 3700 my arse, that place was packed. Good to see lots of Dogs fans travelling but boy were they quiet when things got tough. Like the players themselves they are not used to pressure and don't handle well it when it comes.

Great day for the Blues winning in all grades. Atmos back at the club is an 100% turnaround from the misery of last year. Winners are definitely grinners. The thing I am proudest of from yesterday was the boys' response to pressure - the first 10 minutes of the second term there were signs the Dogs were about to take control and we steadied. Each time we were challenged, or made mistakes, there was a no-fuss heads-down attitude that would have seen us drop our bundle last year.

Sturt's running in packs and movement by hand is sublime at times. I heard a couple of Doggies fans on the hill moaning 'They're playing like us!' which is a pretty good observation. Delivery to Chambo is smart at the moment, but boy he works hard, contributing to at least a couple of other goals yesterday. Thought that was Sheedy's best game for the year and Tim's last quarter was gold - Rick saving him as a pinch hitter was a master stroke, as was 'resting' a big man in the forward pocket for much of the day. Deluca and Feast are a formidable ruck combination.

Gregory was solid down back and is a classic backman. Luke Crane is the pick up of the year without doubt. J Mac had an awesome debut with a fantastic goal with his second kick. Andrew Whiteman again put his body on the line and McLeay continued his excellent form - what a goal! Thommo will probably get a callup to the Puffs pretty soon but here's hoping they leave us with Bentley who was arguably BOG all day.

An amazing game. We would have to be favourites against Port now which is a dangerous mindset to have. However Norwood remain the best team I have seen all year.

Normally the umpire will stop the 25 metre penalty and still have that team take the free kick. The only time the decision is reversed is when it is just a straight free kick not a 25 aswell.

You're right of course but you're conveniently forgetting that exactly the same thing happened in the first half. We had a 25m dead in front of goals penalty overturned by Centrals play-acting. I thought Centrals were gifted some very very soft free kicks in the first half and I say that because we won, not as an excuse after the fact. Paper says frees were 20 / 20 in the finish however.

I dont think the free in the first quarter was a 25 metre penalty (but i could stand corrected), it was just a free kick.I think both sides got some soft frees all day. That free that sturt got in the last quarter in front of goals that put them about 10 points down was as soft as any all day.But that was no excuse for the loss.

yeh that was Slattery in the 2nd 1/4, he must have back flipped about 5 metres
and yeh good effort by Chambo, as someone else has stated somewhere on another thread or this one, it happens a lot becuase the umpires get sucked in, and if it works

The most used comment on the hill I heard was " Great Game!!", which I would have to agree with.

Sturt were great. I feel they had the upper hand the whole game. Great pressure from both sides, and a joy to watch. I even saw a lot of bulldog fans clapping the Sturt side for such a great match at the end. It was an amazing last goal and I think the siren was constantly being blasted to alert the umpires it was the end of the match, but nobody could hear it.

$9 well spent.

So you don't rate your own side too highly from yesterday, Zip.

Congratulations to Sturt for taking on a guy that really can coach, and has been successful at each of his previous three endeavours (Dogs, North then Eagles). Some of what you say is correct, Zip - we have lacked true pressure and a four quarter effort all year, and needed to be shown that you can't take the foot off halfway through the last quarter and walk into a win.

At last we have a competition. Terrific to see Norwood coming on, and the improvement in Sturt. With Cowan out for the season, Westoff in the Paaah and Schell playing down back some of our 'new forwards' were going to be found at at some time.

Laird disappointed with some skills yesterday, but we had the game for the taking... Well done blue boys.

Having not been there, all I can say is congratulations to Sturt on a job well done. It did make Seamus Maloney's day (as well as our 107 point win over Red Cliffs!). To Sturtpeter, Jimmy and others, well done with sticking with the boys and I hope that there is much more joy for you this year. For those Sturt supporters who are saying that Central crumble under pressure....... stop being arrogant. Those words may well come back to bite you!! As Paul Keating said about the recession, I think this was the loss Central had to have to wake them up and spur them onto bigger things.

Cheers!

Good comments from the Dogs fans - it is a healthy thing for all concerned that the 'match of the round' was not the fizzer many may have expected but in fact showed those there the vibrancy and potency of the SANFL. What a shame it was neglected by the ABC.

SnappyTom, Norwood are definitely the best team we've played against this year, in the trials and minor round. I've been talking them up all season and until we beat them (hopefully) they have the wood on us at the moment well and truly.

ABSOLUTELY SUPERB!!

What a game of SANFL footy!!! I said that the last qtr comeback from 5 goals down at Alberton earlier this year was the best since the 02 GF...but this pips it.

Bentley was BOG for mine...he's hard and knows how to win the ball in close...this was always going to be crucial against Centrals. Chambers was double or triple teamed for much of the game and still scored 7 and set up a couple - a phenomenal performance. Nevermind the Kenny, he has a chance for the ton this year if he keeps his foot on the 'gas'. There were no passengers at all. And it wasn't as if we got Centrals on a day off either. They showed polish and class, and threatened to split* it open on numerous occasions.

Not much more to add to what has already been said, except to say that Rick mentioned at pressies that he was more confident going into this match than he was with the South game last week. I think that shows you where the team, and the club as a whole, is at. There was obviously a really good feeling back at the club last night, smiles all round. :D :D :D I expect that a few of us will be archiving the DVD of this game. The atmos at the ground was amazing...I really feel for those who missed it. Those Dogs supporters were out in force yesterday but they do go very quiet when not in front (even the Wingnuts!)...I think the term is Frontrunners, isn't it???

Looking ahead, our next few games are crucial. We might lose Thommo and/or Bentley after the puffs poor showing last night. But we have players in the 2s knocking on the door. This is a big turnaround for a club that everyone said had no depth at the beginning of the year.

Well done to everyone at the Club yesterday. A clean sweep of CDFC!! I still have a headache worthy of the performance..ouch

All good news for the competition. One swallow doesn't make a summer, but it sure is good that Sturt won yesterday. Well done boys.
Sounds like another classic of a game too. Even if it wasn't on telly, if it gets people talking about it at work, or in the pub, then it must be good for future crowds. This year is so unpredictable it's not real. Next week Westies will pull in a two pointer and Port win at Sturt, just to keep it nice and interesting. Think south might be punished for yesterdays defeat and North will have to overcome one of their bogey sides.

Possible table after next week (Assuming North win at the Bays tomorrow)

CDFC..... 18 if they win at South
Sturt..... 12 if they lose to PAM
North..... 11 if they beat Bays and lose to WWT
Eagles....10 if they beat north
Port.......10 if they beat Sturt
Norwood.10 Bye
West......6 if they beat Glenelg
South.....5
Glenelg...2 Wooden Spoon

Sounds like it was a great game. One of my mates rang me and gave me a running commentary of the last 5 minutes of the game. The crowd sounded very loud.
