Totally agree qwerty.

I know players that are playing for country clubs that are getting up to $600 a game plus other perks.
Big money and all you have to do is train 2 times a week, bit of travelling, no where near as much pressure. Reserves for a SANFL side, you train 5 plus times a week, more intense, longer sessions and for what I understand to be between $50 to $100 dollars.
There really is no insentive in playing at all. (just the love of the club) :)

In theory, an increase in ressies payments would be good, however when you take into account that 6 or 7 players playing twos might already be on a fixed contract, and another 8 to ten would be youngsters aged 16 to 20, likely to play either AFL or league in the future, each team only probably has only 4 or 5 "older" aged players likely to require extra payment. Someone like Sturts Paul Jarvis is a perfect example, surely he could get good money elsewere.

Im like you Saintal. I hear bit and pieces around the place. I wont go into it on here but I think we all know there is something that is not right within the playing group. If body laugauge was anything to go by on the weekend I think that told the story.
On question - did you see any South player congratulate at team mate after a goal/sheppard/something done well ??
I struggled to see anyone........ :(

No worries. I thought you knew a bit more than you were letting on 8) I had a chat with B. Tuckey purely by chance just after the B + F in 2005, and I can imagine it's a similar sort of environment down there at the moment.

Yeah, I noticed when Ellis kicked our second goal (and our first in god knows how long), only one bloke went out of his way to pat him on the back, another 2 did so but only as he was walking past them back to the goal square.

That moment really stuck with me.

A few times Jacques put his body on the line for little to no response.

Im sure other clubs have the same problem, but increasing the minimum match payments would surely be better for the competition as a whole, possibly attracting these standout country and local league players to continue at a higher level.

What are others opinions on this?

There would be a number of blokes running around in sfl and gsfl that would play with a fair bit of heart, and having a reasoanble match payment for reserves would help in attracting these local zone players to the club.

Totally agree and have put the same suggestion forward several times, the best way to raise the standard of the SANFL is to raise the standard of the Reserves competition. Considering the training that SANFL reserves players have to put in and the effort they put in often taking work on reduced hours to accomodate their playing career, I feel that their payment is not anything like what it should be. It has not even had CPI increases for 10+ years.

Each player should recieve their salary and a match payment of $250 - $300 per game minimum.

Saintal, sorry should have been clarified myself more.
I thought Jacques actually had a real dip and was one of the only guys out there trying to stir the side up a bit.
Its funny when Ellis kicked that goal I had the same thoughts as you. I think the guys running past sort of felt they had to pat him on the back.
Hope the guys get together and work it out. there is some great bloked there - genuine good guys who are friendly and always up for a chat.
I wondered if the whole Sampson/Smith captain thing at the start of the year was a bad omen for us.
