Spot on OWW... It was a pretty pathetic sight to behold. Standing on the hill with a couple of North supporters, there were plenty around who wanted Jars instant removal from the ground at half time. I've now seen their true colours in the flesh and was pretty unimpressed. No question it was Jars coaching which got them back in the game.

Congrats though to North on a come back I predicted at half time could still occur. Sturt are such a young side and with the likes of Nelson, Thompson and Feast not working the ball out of the middle their inexperience was always going to be their downfall.

Ben Hart, what can I say. He has truly proved to anyone who thought otherwise that he's one of the most composed and skillful players in the SANFL. Age is no barrier to this guy and if fit next year he'll be a danger player for any side which comes up against the Roosters.

As for Sturt, they have perhaps shown what some on this site have been saying for a while - lack of depth. Having said that, we've unearthed quite a few class players this year which will stand us in good stead in coming years but right at the moment with a few key injuries we're unable to cover, we're not the side we were in the first three quarters of the season.

Well done to Whiteman, Crane, and Weatherald who tried all night. Chambers showed his class in the first half but then had no opportunity to do so in the second. Great to see another young excitement machine (possibly) in Sharples. Is he 'Muffy' Mk2?

One of the disappointments for me was Dane Avery whose performance on Hart in the last quarter seemed half hearted (excuse pun). I wouldn't want him playing for my life on the effort he put up Friday night.

Where to from here for both sides? I reckon North can give the Eagles a real crack. They've proven recently that they're around the mark and so long as they don't give them a 50 point head start they have a great chance.

Sturt on the other hand are in real strife. Glenelg have clearly had our measure this year. If we get Thompson, Nelson and Mattner you never know what could happen but you'd have to put your money on the Bays. Whatever the case, this Sunday is going to be a great day of footy and I hope the day gets a deserving crowd...

Go Blues!

I wouldn't say it was a pathetic sight to behold. With the team we fielded on the night compared to the team you fielded coupled with the way we played in the first half and not taking anything away from Sturt who played really well, then you can understand why there were calls for Jars head - even he admitted post match that his career was on the line.

What was pathetic on the night was the disgraceful turnout by the Sturt supporters. At least the north fans turned out in numbers turned and were vocal most of the night - although most of the first half it was frustrated negative yelling though.

The other pathetic site was the Sturt Cheer Squad when leaving after the game and walking back towards the Southern end - a couple of "morons" swinging large flag poles and deliberatley trying to knock the heads of the North supporters walking to the Northern end and a couple more just barrelling into North supporters in anger. Very unnecessary but not the first time the Sturt Cheer Squad have lowered themselves this year.

Unfortunately I can't argue with your second two paragraphs BPBRB...

We do have a few 'morons' in our cheer squad. In the outer there were hardly any Blues supporters (probably outnumbered 5 to 1). Members was probably on an even footing, but members aren't overly vocal. I'll be very disappointed if we don't get strong support on Sunday. Those who have called us 'bandwagonners' this year may be proven correct.

Get out and support your team!!!

(PS. Southee, you are excused. I understand you have booked a holiday cabin on the river during September for the next 5 years.)

fair call CC - given the amount of support Sturt have I couldn't believe how many didn't turn up - if it was because they looked at the "out's" before the game and decided they couldn't win then so be - poor form though given what was on the line but they missed what was almost a very good win by Sturt. I think the positives for Sturt are, with the addition of a couple of those players who missed, is that they can go deep into the finals if they play like they showed for 2 and a bit quarters.

Personally speaking apart from Centrals ( a clear cut favourite), the other 4 sides are all reasonably even and capable in their own ways of beating any of the other 3 on their day and making the GF. This years race to the GF to play Centrals is still very much wide open despite the finshing places at the end of the minor round. All 4 were deserving over the year of a double chance but coming from 4th or 5th this year might not be such a climb to the GF as it normally is?

I have to disagree with you there Clarrie.

Dane Avery is a very talented young footballer who had his legs run off by a rejuvenated Ben Hart who looked every bit the great player he was for the AFC Friday night. He single-handedly carried his team on his back for the last quarter and a half in what was one of the best displays of hard running I have seen in the SANFL for a long time. This was epitomised in the last quarter when he cut off one of Sturt's few forays forward, delivered the ball up field and then ran the length of the ground to North's forward pocket to win a contested ball and set up a North goal. Unbelievable!

So don't be too harsh on young Dane Avery Clarrie, he wasn't the first, and it would seem, he won't be the last player to be towelled up by Benny Hart. A champion.

I'm sure he's got talent Rhino. I was just disappointed with his apparent enthusiasm/body language. No question that it's a tough ask playing an on fire Ben Hart in your first league game, I just expected a bit more fight. He looked lost out there...

What do you think we should've done, give him a standing ovation at half-time???

It makes the result sweeter, to see 90% of the Sturt peanuts come on & carry on about North, instead of Sturt.

Thanks for the insights there Rhino, Clarrie and co. I am beginning to get over the shock of it all now, and it is good to hear some of the "whys" about how we lost. I reckon we are sadly too dependant on Feast. I sometimes equate that reliance as the same as the Bays had on Carey when that great man was also near the end of his career. From what I have read, him hobbling off and the burst that Ben Hart suddenly put in marked the Roosters resurgence. Unfortunately that is the sort of stuff that occurs in finals (or "pseudo" finals), true champions find that extra magic, and the higher intensity produces the breaks in tired bodies.
I just hope we can find some secret formula to reverse for Sunday's game.

It's gonna be tough on Sunday, but if we get Nelson, Thompson and Mattner in we'll have a fair chance. I was reasonably impressed by Kurtze performance at times Friday night but Deluca was no star. Next year I'm hearing stronger and stronger rumours that Barnaby may be coming back to Unley. Fingers crossed as I think Feasty will call it quits.

Pretty big news about Barnaby there Clarrie, if that is true. Whenever I hear that rumour though, somebody always comes along and quashes it pretty quick.
I will very sad to see Feast go, he was a huge part of our revival back in the late 90's, and probably more an integral part in the team than ever before right now.

Just another excuse. It was a 50 point lead which was blown in about 15 minutes, you can't use the AFL as an excuse!
