SANFLnut wrote:If we sign Tippett at Westies this week and then the Crows rookie him does he still go in the mini draft where Sturt could still then pick him before us? Alternately we sign him, he gets rookied and then we still have to use our only selection in the mini draft to secure a player we have already signed?

Pretty sure that is how the rules work. Ridiculous situation for clubs to be in.

smac wrote:All SANFL contracts have a clause that sets the player free if they are drafted. He'd have to have spent last season on Wests list to be considered a West player when the mini draft rolls around.

I could be wrong and a Bays fan may able to confirm or deny it, but I think Glenelg might have actually signed Jason McCartney before traded to the Crows from Collingwood in 1995 but because he wasn't previously registered in our league, he went into the SANFL mini-draft as an AFL recruited player and South Adelaide selected him, seeing the Tigers miss out.

Yes Jason was one of the Nhill FC lads who used the GFC Changerooms when their club came over to Adelaide for their end of season footy trip in 89 & 90. I think his dad was the coach.
At 16/17 he was 'a guest of the club' at our 1990 players & officials only grand final dinner, and had agreed to sign on if he wasn't drafted. Collingwood drafted him, and his AFL carrer began.

I love how the Sunday article tells us there is a serious question mark hovering over Ben Kane at the Bay when Saturdays rag had already told us he'd left Glenelg. Quality journalism.

Is why the wise clubs hold off announcements until after the drafts are finished.

I think his actions in Bali disproved that theory.

That's right, what happened that night negated his previous on field performance.
It's all the SANFL's fault.

Wow, what a wit.
McCartney wasn't a great player but I don't think it was because he was soft.

The connection with the Brumbies is his uncle is their fitness guy and that he was training with them to keep in good shape.
