WWTFC - Big Week Ahead
First - selection will be very interesting as Redden, Grocke, Salter, Hier should all be available and certainly can cover Kenny McG if he is called up to the Crows. Also Symonds should be fine and Schwarze has been given OK.

Second - is the Woodville Heritage Day on Saturday with players from 1972 returning to the club as guests - including Ray Huppatz and the striped Woodville jumper being worn.

Third - As we will be in our 14th finals campaign in our 17 seasons we again will be offering a special deal from saturday re membership - join as a member for 2008 and get the rest of this season included free - so be member now and for next year too for just the price of 2008. Join at the merchandise tent on saturday or at the club next week. Closing in on 2100 members for the first time ever!!!

Fourth - it could be this week that the club makes a very important and big announcement - if not this week will be next week - watch this space!! HERE IT IS

great job to announce Fuller's appointment before the finals.
avoids all of the speculation, which proved ill founded, of last season.

As long as he's still hungry for success, then you can't really argue against him being appointed for a further 2 years as he has done a great job. Was he chased by any other clubs? Is that why the announcement was made at this time and for that length of time? He had been on a 1 year contract previously hadn't he?

Interesting...

My mail (from the inner sanctum) was that he told the players @ the start of '06 that & I quote:
"This will be my last season"... With the premiership, he fulfills his contract obligations of '07... now he is re-appointed (I assume he applied for the re-appointment)... Hmmmm

How do the players feel about the appointment ?

Without wanting to 'stir the pot', not sure ALL will be pleased 8)

I thought it might have been that Jared Petrenko is in for his first game....
Good positive news for the Eagles to build a back to back attack on..

That's exactly right. As long he has the desire and obviously looks like he has total support from all, there's no reason why he couldn't continue. And as Dogwatcher said, it puts all rumours to rest early.

Which of course is a great thing when heading towards the finals.

Congrats to Ron. He has brought stability, professionalism and a winning culture to the club. Ron also is a fine judge of junior talent and is willing to promote them. Over the years there have been a few rumblings about Ron not being a "players Coach" but I feel that in the last year or two especially, he has the respect of the players and he has kept all the valuable players. We have lost some disenchanted players but none of them has done anything special with any other club. The core group has not been seduced by the likes of Jarman at North, a supposedly "players coach" and stuck with a club and coach that has a successful and organised culture of doing the right thing. I hope Ron keeps things fresh and stimulating for the players.

From the Advertiser

WOODVILLE-West Torrens coach Ron Fuller has extended his tenure at the club until 2009 after signing a new two-year contract.

Fuller, who has juggled his coaching commitments with a job at the Metropolitan Fire Service, said his "drive" to coach was still strong.

"I've always enjoyed it, it's never been not wanting to do it," Fuller, who took over from Paul Hamilton in 2001, said. "It's just being able to manage it with work and a few other little things but I'm sure that will be fine - it makes it easy to get on with it when you've got support."

After taking the Eagles to grand finals in 2001, 2004 and '05, Fuller led the club to the 2006 SANFL premiership. Even more impressive has been his ability to keep his team playing finals football - the Eagles haven't missed September action in the seven years Fuller has been at the helm. "Ron seems to have a habit that we all like - he's never missed a finals series," Eagles chief executive John Kantilaftas said.

"And five out of the six years previous to this year, we've played deep into the finals. He's delivered the goods, he wanted to go on, so we thought it was ideal for us to reappoint him. Stability is always good if you've got a good coach delivering a good product - you want to keep him as long as possible."

His team suddenly eyeing a top-three berth this year, Fuller said there was still much for him to achieve.

"I want to make sure the club stays as competitive as it can be - to keep playing finals," Fuller said.

"The climate under the AFL is becoming tougher to recruit and this year we've brought a lot of the younger boys into the reserves and the league (team) - that's been exciting."

WOO HOO. Should we win again this year, it'd be another nail in the coffin of the Ron Fuller bashers.

Well done Eagles. Fuller has done a good job over the years. Hopefully he can develop these young kids into good footballers, so we remain strong for years ahead.
