Finals footy just around the corner

Postby eaglehaslanded » Sat Sep 01, 2007 11:23 am

With finals footy just around the corner just wanting to know from supporters of clubs participating in this years finals which opposition do you most fear. Analysing the Eagles possible opponents I would fear Central the most - their record in finals speaks for itself. We have only beaten them once in a final that being last seasons Grand Final. Sturt don't concern me as we have a brilliant record against them and this years model under McGowan although being on the improve still don't have what it takes to get the job done. North I have the utmost respect for but under the pressure of finals they fold quicker than a bad hand on a poker table so I don't think we need to be too concerned with them and then there's Glenelg they are the diamond in the rough but again under finals pressure I don't know how they will hold up. My prediction is an Eagles v Central Grand Final what are your thoughts.

I fear Glenelg, only team we can't beat.

Christ, never thought I'd be saying that again!

Christ I hope not! I would imagine 30 - 40,000 others would prefer to see a Grand Final not featuring either of these sides in all fairness.
A Sturt v Glenelg, or Glenelg v North, or Sturt v North game would bring greater interest back to the comp.

Besides I've had enough of seeing the Dogs whip the Eagles in Grand Finals, even though the equation was reversed last year, if the two teams meet up again I'm pretty sure the Dogs will belt the Eagles.

Time for a change! Go you Blues! Chooks! Bays!

Agreed for the competitions sake. It does get a bit boring to watch. We've won our first GF against Central now so I would believe that any future GF's between the two will be a lot more competitive. Having said that though it's not the Dogs or Eagles fault for that matter that no other side has been good enough to beat either of us in that period of time. My question to you "Rucciangelo" is do you really believe your Sturt boys will be good enough to make their way into this years GF. You can't beat the Eagles in the minor round let alone you now have to do it under finals pressure which I might add you haven't been able to do either.

Surely "Wedgie" you would equally fear the Dogs or Eagles if not more than the Tigers. I think that post was a bit tounge in cheek.

All I can say here EHL is that I have great faith in the young men who wear Double Blue, and to go with a cliche, anything can happen on the day. Keep in mind we really only have to beat you on one occasion when it really counts. If our lads turn up with their heads screwed on then look out. I always remember to 2002 when we couldn't get near Centrals at all and look what happened!

FINALS = whole new ball game. There are 5 teams with just as much chance as each other to make it. Hopefully its a cracker series, and may the best team win

Have the Eagles beaten Centrals this year? Don't think so. How do you expect to beat them in the finals? In the end it's wide open this year and every team has to face their demons, even Centrals, 2002, 2006.

You make a good point cutterman. We haven't beaten them this year. We're now on the improve though hitting full strength at the right time and did come very close on the last meeting. The main point I make is we now know how to beat them on the big occasion. Although I believe their our biggest threat I also believe we have what it takes to topple them on any occasion.

The Eagles have been brilliantly held back this season.

Possibly the "Phar Lap" of 2007

Timing its race to perfection.

I can only see an Eagles v Dogs 2007 GrandFinal

With possibly the same result as last year.

Central are a certainty for the Grand Final. Only opposition I can see getting there are the Eagles and North. North are still a threat with the talent on their list.

I fear no team. I beleive that if we play our game we will beat anybody. We have so much more firepower this season than last, but we could be our own worst enemy if we think we can just turn up. Laird has been pacing the boys well and they should be released today to really smash the redlegs to make a statement leading into the finals.

Which team do I fear? All of them at the moment! While I hope we can give September a real crack and go the whole way, I haven't forgotten that it is freakish that Sturt are even there, with a playing list supposedly weaker than the one that finished 8th last year and further decimated by pre-season injuries. I made a table comparing how the top five have fared against other top five sides and it shows just how poor Sturt has been against its finals opponents this year. In spite of all that, I can't help thinking that we may be able to produce some Earth shattering performance, the like of which has seen us make the finals in the first place, and possibly make it to the Grand Final. But from here I'll just be glad if they fight it out in the manner that brought them this far already.
I agree with most on here. Central vs Eagles grand final, possibly Bays as a smokey with the Mickan factor playing a big part.
I'm gonna sit back, crack the top off a Pale Ale, and watch the Double Blues prevail

Whether its a momentum thing, or that we proved last year we could finally do it, I feel more confident this year than the last three when we were high up on the ladder for most of the year. This year we've had to battle harder than Centrals North and Sturt to get where we are, and still finished top three after some ordinary performances and injuries in the first half of the year, might count for something at the end of the year.

How many players have we used this year Spelly? - reckon only West would have used more

Glenelg are a big chance. Very tough from the Elimination final but they are playing as well as anyone at the moment.

Other than Central Glenelg are the side i'd least like to play.

I'm with Wedgie on this EHL. We have beaten both CD and WWT this year, yet we can't get over the Bay Wall.

Bays in good form too. Personally, I would definitely like to avoid them in the Elim Final.
