FootySAisms
Thanks for reminding me Kevin.
I have thought about this for a while now; there are some obvious traits in this website such as *, reakon etc.
Does anyone know the origins of these and other common phrases on this website?

reakon was just a misspelling of "reckon" which caught on, and then when "reakonman" signed up it was on for young and old.

Perhaps also the story behind usernames such as wrx boy, valleysvirgin, STAN8888, coorong, the_troll, peter xtc, and anything else that's worth knowing about.

I remember the battle for usernames between GrahamL and Grahamleroy. I am sure they would have almost come to blows if they met. Grahamleroy didn't like GrahamL having a username similer to his.
I think GrahamL has dissapeared, haven't heard from him in a while. I guess Grahamleroy you outlasted him

FYI put some thought into my name, came up with plenty, but as an old fisherman, shearer, rodeo rider & carnival fighter, thought the region where I grew up always brings back some of the fondest memories. Ah yes, the aroma of the Coorong at low tide. Now a stagnent cesspool. Memories hey.

It's great looking through old comments and pulling out gems such as this comment after the Ian Borchard sacking:
1-Oct-02, 12:37 PM Anonymous
Ryan (Brad Ryan) won't want anything to do with Westies. He quit coaching the reserves last year disgusted with the club for not sacking that arseclown Peter Bird for physically attacking him between quarters. The Shaun Rehn rumour has been going around for over a month. If they appoint him they will give the Bays a challenge for the wooden spoon.

I know who is responsible for each of these. Some should forever remain a mystery.
It's amazing how quickly these have been adopted though.
My other favourite is the naming of posters significant others as Mrs Berton, or Mrs Wedgie, Mrs Borat etc...
And then the odd shortening of posters logins - eg. fatal, theri, etc...
Allegedly Oxford Dictionary are going to make * an entry in their 2006 edition.

Does anyone remember this story and what the comments were?
It was a story reporting of the Bali bombing and resulting deaths of two members of the Sturt community. At that time, it was possible to post comments underneath a story even more anonymously that it is now; posting under a username was merely optional. There were several "anonymous" comments posted under that thread which were highly offensive. And unfortunately, family members of those who had died in the bombing read those comments.
At that stage too, we had no way of censoring individual comments. So the entire story was removed from the site. And after that incident, we made it necessary to register a username to post comments, and also made it is possible for individual comments to be removed from public view.

Anyone else having trouble posting new forum topics...
Due to many reasons, and not least of which the growing popularity of FootySA, we have outgrown our current web hosting arrangements and have moved to greener pastures. The davie.textdrive host you are seeing is our new server. We have switched over the domain footysa.com to this host, but it generally takes several days before your internet provider's own system can be flushed through and they see the new host. So, basically, that should disappear after a few days and be back to footysa.com.
The trouble you are having with posting new forum topics is our fault. Our old host had its time set to local Adelaide time, but the new host works on GMT. We have added in the difference for posting comments, but not topics. New threads are still being created and posted but appear as if they were started nine or so hours previously, hence appear lower down in the list.
We'll try and fix this sometime today...

Thanks dg. Thought it was stuff beyond my comprehension - thanks for making me feel even less technology savvy. LOL!
Don't know much about getting wireless routers to work properly with bigpond cable do you?

well spell_check the time is certainly getting closer when I, and my band of virginettes, will discard our shadowy existences and post here with our real names. That will be a bit of a culture shock to everyone won't it?
At some point you have to put up or shut up.
At that point it will be obvious how my name came to be.
...and I'm responsible for:
"Imaginery Tales"
"But that could never possibly happen"
11-Aug-05, 10:25 AM campbell
Having a clear dig at someone or something and then ending the post with "LOL!", in order to claim the victim didn't have a sense of humour when they respond. "Hey, don't overreact - didn't you see the lol?" This is the only site I have seen where the offender gets away with this kind of obvious ploy.
And then there's the merry band of psycophants that love posting LOL! GOLD! or CLASSIC! whenever something even vaguely humourous is posted by a regular poster.
And then there's the constantly repeated and recycled threads that keep reappearing because people have run out of new things to discuss.
And that pretty much sums up footysa! LOL!

In the same vein as campbells post on 11 August 05,
"Hook, line and sinker" or "Come in Spinner" whenever some pratt posts antagonistic or unfactual comments and someone has the "temerity" to reply or correct them with a commonsense point of view.
Thus trying to escape the reality that what they initially said was a load of wank.
