Chris and James Gowans Appreciation Thread

I hope they don't give the SANFL away but I'd like to say how fantastic and important the contribution these 2 lads have made to the SANFL. They've helped make not only their club stronger but the SANFL as a whole.
I'd really like someone to post the full details of exactly how many Grand Finals and premierships they've played in and details of their awards at Central.
I know Chris has played 163 SANFL games and James has played 159 SANFL games with them both playing in 17 SANFL finals and 7 Grand Finals with 3 Jack Oatey's between them.
I have nothing but admiration for these guys and their records are unbelievable if you take into account GFs they played in even before they joined the Dogs.
Ive never met a person that has met them in real life like I had the pleasure of meeting Chris once that ever said a bad word about them, quality blokes.
Along with someone like Dean Howard over the last few years I've always said they'd be the first blokes I'd pick in my side.
Well done Chris and James, your efforts and record are exceptional and you're a credit to yourselves, your family and your club.
PS This thread is about appreciating their achievements, any negative comments will be deleted.

lol, I'd hate to think of some of the barneys they had in the back yard as kids.
Also I understand an ABC program had a special on them last week, if anyone knows if its going to be repeated or put on ABC2 can you please let me know?
Cheers.

Comments in the paper indicate they would retire from all forms of footy and go home when they're done at the dogs. I would have thought that meant they would play as long as they could here. Next year must be odds on and perhaps the year after? Would be fantastic to see them get up to 200 games, but James might need a third season for that.

I seem to recall hearing that they played in a GF the year before they came over to the dogs (maybe more than 1), they would have forgotten what it's like not to play in the season finale'

13 on the trot, Ian. St Kilda reserves, Werribee and another club in the 5 years before the CDFC.

Unbelievable to say the least.
Some would say its matter of being in the right place in the right time but they're also a big reason as to why those clubs have made it IMHO.

That would have to be a record of some sort. If not an individual one, a record for brothers, surely.

In terms of Premiership success & awards will be recognised as the Club's best two players ever & by the time they are finished may have a record impossible to match in future years. (The dynasty cant go on for ever)- Tim Ginever summed them up beautifully in the early years when commenting on the ABC. He reckoned their Mum must have given them some good hidings as little tackers to teach them how to share, given how they have the uncanny knack of picking each other out.
I remember watching the first trial games they played in and walking out with the knowledge we had a couple of "keepers" there. Didn't quite envisage the impact they would have though..

So 12 premierships between the two of them obviously has the Cahills covered as brothers with flags. Are there any legendary brothers from the early 1900s who had a stack of flags.
Still, give me the Aish brothers.

I'll take Andrew Aish for all my physio needs, but I'll keep the Gowans and the last 8 years thanks!

I must admit I like these blokes. I enjoy the way they go about their footy.
If not for the Gowans the Dogs would have a few less premierships I think...
I loved the Stringer brothers at Glenelg better though !!
