The big improvement will come from the kids. Obst, Williams, Dutschke, Hadden, Goodrem, Pfitzner, Havelberg and a few others I've forgotten will all get better. Plus I think guys like Lawry and Grima will improve again. Cowan will hopefully be back as well.

before winning one after a 22 year break, and at the end of the century was 6-20
Over the past 8 yeras the Dogs have won 16 of 18 finals games to finally
even the ledger at 22-22

My Question is
" Which side is most likely to challenge CD in 2008?"

Im looking for a side with an elite midfield that can go the distance with CD
I will assess in alphabetical order the other teams in 2008

EG have great talls up forward but lack midfield endurance , need 2 fast midfielders to challenge

GL have a midfield as good as CD but need a tall forward and a dominating ruckman

NA really needed RYSWKK/LONIE in g/f and missed them, need another 1 or 2 James Allens to threaten

NW need pokies revenues to buy success and copy NA then emulate CD

PA no pace no hope v CD need 3 fast midfielders

SA the chequebook may work one millenuim, need to fix up intrastructure these days

ST another who are only 2 midfielders from challenging the dogs

WA not yet unfortunately, need to re-emerge these days


CD need a tall mobile target deep in the forward line [was lacking at the end of 2007]
SCHELL/COWANS/WESTHOFF can do it
If CD recruits a CHB to release Danny ...ohhh boy

I have to say a job well done by CD 2000-2007 inclusive
It could have been SA
SA have recruited as many very good recruits as CD in recent years
But SA have not enjoyed the spoils
Dunno about 2008 but SA could be the gatecrashers in years to come

Yes, I had the pleasure of coaching Adam for a few years. Plays the same as Trav, only tough and hard at the ball as well. Looking forward to watching his progress, but I don't envisage too many SANFL games for him.

Not sure of his birthdate, he may have done as he played some games late in the season when he was an under 15 (2005) - 7 of that under 15's side did the same thing. He then chucked it in early 2006 and went back to Smithfield. Back at the club this season as a second year u17 and wound up in the reserves before seasons end.

Alan Obst could do that third tall job as well, Mal. A forward line of Havelberg, Lawry and Obst with crumbers around should kick plenty of goals. Wouldn't have thought Schell would move back forward permanently. Rumour mill was that he was about to give away the game until a new challenge (that didn't involve being beaten up every game!) was set for him. Now that he's starting to get the hang of the position I can't see them reverting back to Schell at FF.

Good point Graham. it worked very well this year with Schell being the leading marking stats and why would you change it unless the likes of Havelberg and Obst get drafted.

Obst was influential in the semi against North. He really gave us an extra leg up in the forward line when we were struggling a little. Set us running well once he started to take a couple of grabs. His influence waned through the match, but it was there when we needed.

And there's another Westhoff coming through.

Would like a ball carrying midfielder. Symes did a great job but we can't expect him to play much next year. Could become an achilles heel with Ware not a high stat getter and Switala slowing down. Perhaps Faulkner would do the job, or one of the kids coming through. Would have thought this was more of a worry than our key positions. Our riches in talls is a bit embarassing really!
