well what should it be ?

Postby bayman » Sun Oct 14, 2007 9:54 pm

i think that we should go back to a 'foundation cup' type of series & lets face it didn't foundationsa/living health sponsor the cup taking over from cigarette advertising & they were going to sponsor the series forever in a day, perhaps the league could talk to a cigarette company !!!

south adelaide 'night specialists' they could go top next march
i thought secret groups were a thing of the past, well not on websites anyway

Pre-Season for sure, round robin format IMO...
Then have a final for top of the group, the losers can play a trial in the same week...
The joy of being on the hill drinking beer cannot be understated

The cost to the clubs of staging this comp and the level of public interest while cricket season finishes are my only queries - ie, I struggle to see where the revenue will come from to pay for it all.

Altho I guess if they are playing trials anyway .....?

I always thought the Foundation cup dragged on a bit too long - why not just extend the main season.

We could do a knock out format: Bottom 2 teams from last year play off - winner joins the other 7 teams in a knock-out format from there
In between signatures .....

Start the season early Bayman.

24 game season, plus Byes.

Play each other 3 times.

Home, Away and Adelaide...

Equality is ALWAYS good, so to extend to the season is far from a bad idea. Playing all teams 3 times would be great, the only inequality would be home games, but no draw/fixture will ever be 100% equal, just get it as close as practicle

if the nt comes in,this is what i would like to happen.

preseason knockout comp.

5 games with with 6 teams progressing into week 2,with the highest scoring losing team gaining an extra chance.

week 2 having 3 games with the highest scoring winner advancing into the gf. the other 2 winning teams for the prelim.(the gf advancing team would play a trial vs 1 of the losers)

week 3 prelim.

week 4 gf.

all played at thebarton oval with 12/15 min quarters . with 2/3 games playing on the same day ,would make a great atmasphere.

thoughts?

Bearing in mind that the NT deal appears almost done, thus removing the bye.

I don't think we need to extend the "competition" phase of our league given we have removed 3 breaks from it. Keep them as trials.

Hopefully the SANFL have a mid-season break at some stage (a different weekend to the AFL would be smart).

One pre-season weekend it could be the SANFL lightning Carnival

Played at Norwood Oval, Day 1 Starting at 10.00am - 11pm ($2.00 Entry)

Format 9 sides plus the NT or Tas are invited to play in this rare event, if both knock back the invitation you could invite the SAAFL Under 23 Side who played west preseason and did quite well.

Game Format 2 X 10 min halves plus time on. Sides must sub 10 players at half time, this uses their full squads over the two day carnival, use of 17's & 19's as well could be used in a squad of 50 & promoted. West End or who eva could all sponsor, prizemoney graduated down from 1-10, all clubs selling club gear with booths bothdays, make it a real SANFL carnival and showcasing new recruits, kids etc
