Scott Bamford has retired. Great career for someone of his size. Will remember the runt screaming down the wing at Prospect, Karidina and Gabba for years to come. Well done fella.

Nah not from the man himself, reliable none the less. Trying to think how old he would be, mid 30's?

Think they may have both played in Fitzroy's last game

*sigh* The post made the point that Bamford is the last player left who played for Fitzroy that was still left playing competitive football. Johnson played his last game for Brisbane well before Bamford played in the SANFL Grand Final.

Sorry I chimed in towards the end - you are right as far as I can tell. When Chris Johnson retired he was described by The Age as the 'AFL's last Fitzroy player'.
So Scotty would be the last playing either SANFL or AFL - I'd assume others are playing in other (lower) leagues

Yep, Johnson was the last playing AFL. Banger (who i might add is yet to retire despite the assumptions made in this thread) is the last playing at a level higher than amateur footy. No idea if others are playing still in lower grades but i would guess there would be some for sure.
PS - hondo, sorry for sounding rude. I've had a long day.

yes, I was making the point that Bamford was last at a senior level. Johnson's 12 further years at the AFL for three flags and a couple of All Australians obviously is the greatest record of the Fitzroy last-team, but Bamford outlasted him by a month at a very good level.
last team was
Warry, Hawking, Rombotis
Boyd, McCarthy, Johnson
Barker, Atkins, Carter
Pike, Warfe, Clayton
Chandler, Molloy, Paxman
Primus, Dent, Bamford
Doyle, Hogg, Morton
I think Paxman is still playing a bit of suburban footy over here in Melbourne (with his brother from memory) but really not sure if any of the others are even playing anywhere. the likes of Boyd, Rombotis, Hawking, Molloy are long-gone due to injury and obviously a chunk of these guys were late 20s when they went under, putting them close to 40 now. Great effort by Bamford to get more than a decade on from that game.

Wouldn't bank on it sharky. News from Mrs Banger (1 fairly reliable source) is that he hasn't decided yet

IMO opinion, he would have to be a bigger chance to retire than not, but as JTC said, that decision has not yet been made.
If he plays on he still has plenty to offer the Roosters.
