SANFL Country Games in 2008.

I have to confess to being a little surprised that the only country game in the draw for 2008 is Sturt vs South July 13 @ Murray Bridge.
Surely Moonta - Kadina - Wallaroo @ Easter would have been a sold out venue for the SANFL for a game?
Westies and Central did well in the Riverland, so I am wondering why West Adelaide have decided no more country games next year?
It would be a good thing if each club had to have one game in their zone each year to promote the SANFL.
My concern is that the SANFL management are not serious about increasing the attendances and interest in the SANFL competition in order to warm people up for the SA-AFL takeover with a heap of false promises about what they are going to do and how much better it will all be etc etc.
Overall the draw seems pretty good, yet a lot more could have and should have been done re country venues.

Pretty dissapointed Centrals dont have one this season, really enjoyed the Berri trip last season.

Sojo, pretty difficult to have a country game over Easter when the season starts the week after.
I'm sure there will be a few country trial games. I hope Norwood has one next year as I quite enjoy the drive in the hills.

True! Yet those areas are also packed on various other long weekends which the SANFL could take full advantage off!

Come on people stop living in the 80's and embrace Adelaide's urban sprawl.

I actually was hoping for a game in the SE somewhere. Glenelg have put a fair bit of effort over the past years to get the link with the SE working well. Our captain is a SE boy and it'd be good to get the SE lads down there for a game.

Yeah Berri was an absolute blast last year. We partyed at the local nightclub til about 12, we got to berri at 11am was a long day. While other mates stayed in the hotel the night. Was really hoping maybe Central would have had a home country game in Tanunda or Nurioppta but i guess the profit from our Saturday Night home games mean playing in the country would be a financial loss.

Those that class Elizabeth as 'country', should heed this paraphrased message from Emma Clarke (the girl sacked for her creative Tube messages in London -
http://www.emmaclarke.com/fun/mind-the- ... ouncements) - I say this with tongue firmly in cheek
'Residents of inner-suburban Adelaide are reminded that there are other places in metropolitan Adelaide outside you stinking shithole of a city and if you remove your head from your arses for just a couple of minutes you may realise that Gepps Cross is not the edge of the earth.'

Personal Post Only
Country games are great for all concerned and a lot of fun.
$ Costs to clubs are significant when compared to normal home game.
Even moving a game in the metro can be expensive
For example it costs WWFTC around $7000 to move a home game to Thebarton (ground hire, temporary cool rooms, movement of +/or hire of equipment for food and drink booths, PA system hire and set up etc.)
So maybe if everyone had a country game every third or forth year it could be managed.

Stuff the country games IMHO the byes are bad enough . I could not think of anything worse than having to pack everyone up in the car to see my team play in Pt Augusta or Pt Pirie.

Well thats a very typical attitude of most people from the city, you think nothing exists past Gepps Cross! Your comments are very ignorant and short sighted!! The SANFL should be out there trying to promote the brand as much as possible, cause they haven't done much for country footy in the past...

Your exactly right Brad, it's that attitude that really annoys me. When a kid from the country cracks the league and becomes a gun for their side these people are generally the ones who jump on the kids bandwagon and brag about how great a pick up he was, etc, etc, etc but then they don't wanna support the area thats providing them with their next crop of stars. Very one minded grrrr it really really does annoy me.

I wouldn't want to spend a car trip to Pt. Augusta with Redden Whites either. Where do you think your namesake came from?

No wonder the SANFL is slowly going down the gurgler. So many people still living 50 years in the past. Elizabeth is now football HQ in SA and no-one has noticed

Yep, another person who thinks that the SANFL only needs to be supported by people who CHOOSE to live in the urban sprawl. The SANFL is making a real comeback to a lot that deserted it around 91. I know my constant promotion of the league at my club drives a lot insane but there are a few who now take an interest in their old club when I bet six packs etc. A game in the town would further rekindle the interest....
