Postby Wedgie » Mon Feb 20, 2006 7:27 pm

WEST END CLUB OF THE YEAR
Initiated for the first time in 2006, the West End “Club of the Year Award” recognises the most outstanding SANFL Club as determined against a range of benchmarking standards.
The presentation was made at tonight’s Annual General Meeting of the SANFL.
Sponsorship of $12,000 was made available by the South Australian Brewing Company and was distributed to the top 3 placegetters in the “Club of the Year”.
Clubs earn points on a variety of benchmarks detailed in the annual Benchmarking document produced by the SANFL and distributed to all Clubs.
A maximum of 26 points including bonus points can be awarded.

The top 3 Clubs in the West End “Club of the Year” for 2005 are as follows:

1st Central Districts on 15 Points - $8,000.00
2nd North Adelaide on 14 points - $2,500.00
3rd Port Adelaide Magpies on 12 points - $1,500.00

For the 2006 end of season judging, a new category “Most Improved Club” will replace the 3rd place award currently being presented.
Please find attached a point’s breakdown for all Clubs together with the criteria for points.
Congratulations to the Central District Football Club on winning the inaugural West End Club of the Year for 2005 and to West End for providing the sponsorship.

I like the idea of this award, a bloody business plan cost us equal top! Well done to whoever thouught it up in the SANFL, a great initiative.
Some very interesting reading amongst all that.

Im a bit disappointed that the 3rd place will be done away with for a most improved award in the future though.

I was most suprised that Norwood followed by North had the most local & country lads in their side the way some other clubs sprout off about this and have a go at North for their interstaters. Hang your head in shame other clubs!
Also good to see that North had the most in State Sides, accredetation and promotion as I rate those as extremely important.

Excellent to see these things compared and judged on a fair basis without emotion and stories coming into it.

Fantastic idea. Good to see the clubs rewarded for sound structures and also for developing local players. It may make some clubs rethink that interstate recruit instead of blooding a junior to help get a point.

I don't think clubs will turn down and interstate recruit merely because of this award and lets face it, the monetary amount is only a token value.
I do agree its a great idea and the prestige and bragging rights as well as recognition is the important factors of this award IMHO.

I think this is a worthwhile award as it stresses things like financial viability and contibutions to the community which could be sacrificed for a premiership (which would be very short term thinking).

lol, only if judged by a Centrals fan.
In all honesty the website might get 3rd best (maybe lower, I'd have to look into them further, not even close to the top 2 though IMHO) and the forum is still in its infancy, definately off to a promising start but I'd still rate at least 4 other forums better.

You wouldn't be biased would you?

Perhaps we should have a poll to decide - but then everyone would just vote for their won club's wouldn't they?

Not at all, I can quite fairly rate websites, in fact I've been asked to do that quite a bit, I have a bit of expertise in that area.
I was the biggest critic of North's website when it was in its previous format if you're getting at the fact that I'd favour North?
I was actually referring to a comprehensive study done by a professional organisation last year in regard to club websites which assessed all important areas.
I might sit down and do a comprehensive assessment of all the SANFL's sites soon if I get a few hours to spare.

Also don't get me wrong, I think the CDFC site looks very professional is very well set out even if it does take 2 minutes to load the home page because of that stupid java aplet but yes I would have a few ideas to make it a lot more appealing to fans, mainly in content. I'd probably have ideas for all SANFL websites, probably dozens of them for some of the more ordinary effort.

lol@duncs, auum you can argue with it.
1) those votes are taken over many years and aren't on the current sites and more importantly:
2) I take into account professional independent assessments moreso than some fans that log in under differnt votes and make multiple votes.

As doggies4eva said, polls about these sort of issues are irrelevent as people like yourself couldn't make a fair and intelligent assessment of the site.
Having said that, you enjoy your site and that's great, personally I'd want more from a site as do most others but if the bare necessities keep you happy then that's good for you and good for your club so everyone is happy. Also its great to see Centrals catch up with the rest of the comp barring Westies who have joined since in having a fans forum, these forums are fantastic and hopefully the sort of things achieved on other fans forums will one day occur on the Centrals forum.

Is cool Wedge. Im just so one eyed Centrals that i think every thing they do is the best.
I havent even looked at any other SANFL websites, so what ill do, in a younger fans neutral perspective is, have a good look at the all the websites besides CDFC and ill rate them in my preferential order.
Stay tuned
