MARK CLAYTON APPOINTED CLUB CAPTAIN

Port Adelaide Magpies LogoThe Port Adelaide Magpies Football Club is delighted to announce that Mark Clayton, 28, has been appointed as Captain of the club for the 2006 season.

Clayton has played 177 league games since his debut in 1997 and is a premiership player with the Club, having also progressed through the Club's junior system. Clayton was understandably thrilled with the announcement, adding "having spent all my football life at Port Adelaide it is a tremendous honour to lead a Club that has been such an enormous part of my life. The players are very close and united and it is a very exciting time at the Club to be stepping into this role."

Coach Tim Ginever congratulated Clayton on his appointment. "Mark plays his football how Port Adelaide people expect the game to be played and in his career with the Club so far he has proven to be a great leader on the ground and a fine ambassador off it".

The Club also announced Corey AhChee will be Vice Captain in 2006, with Jeremy Clayton and Daniel Elstone Deputy Vice Captains. AhChee 24, Clayton 24, and Elstone 22, are all seen as long term leadership prospects at Port Adelaide.
