Stephen Doyle is still being listed with an ankle injury. Curious!

Ex AFL player coming back to his non original club, listed as injured ? Very surprising . Add to that his injury history and you have to wonder why Norwood got him . Surely he wouldnt come back just for the money !!

You gotta be joking OCT.."wouldnt come back just for the money"...I would have thought that would be the only reason he'd come to Norwood....apparantly South wanted him back but the Legs threw more cash at him.....hes always been injury prone and guess what.....he's injured again...great investment

I assume you are talking about Simon Phillips.... ???

I was told at the Central v Norwood game last week and that Phillips actually punched the bonnet of a car ??? Regardless, no doubt an alcoholically induced fit of rage. Aparently Trevor Hill is spitting chips, don't blame him...

I think Doyle is a little bit overrated but if he can eventually get his body right, he will certainly go a long way to helping the Redlegs out...

Ha, ha, ha Punk Rooster...

Not neccesarily always the case there though Punky... :?

I won lotto last week with 3 and a sup and only took home $28.35, certainly don't consider myself rich by any stretch of the imagination

Maybe that's all they should be paying the big ruckman if they aren't going to get much out of him ??? !! Reckon a few clubs may have had a crack at him in the off season though, simply because there wasn't a great number of quality ruckman available. Possible that even both our clubs would have been in the situation of getting the ex Swannie onto their lists ?

I think it's still a bit early to make a call on Doyle. I don't think anyone including Norwood would have expected him to play every game and would have known they will get some injuries, but if he is able to play 2/3 of the games and play well in them then it has been a success. I'll judge it at the end of the year.

Well he is good mates with North Vice Capt Brett White given they were on the Swans list together and according to my "sources" his contract asking price was way above the odds (as was former North junior Matt Davis) for North. It appears Norwood were happy to shell out the money for those two. Had North met his demands (and at the the same time got Minson over who has since retired) we may have shelled out a lot of money for no return.

Having said that - we look like we need another ruckman besides O'Hara and that may be one negative about our current list and could prove costly over the season.

Agreed - he was definately the pick of ruckman available to SANFL clubs.

Totally agree, well said...

I'm stoked we got Shaw instead of Doyle, not that I reckon we would have honestly looked at him, the club would be smart enough to realise the gamble with his injury issues.

I guess we have just had a high standard of ruckman in our most successful years gone by (Arnold, Moller, Scoullar, Mackenzie, Griffen) and I reckon the club would have been aware of this when looking at selecting a ruckman to recruit. Clearly, they made the right choice though with getting the "correct" ex Swannie big man. Point taken by ca though, if he gets fit and can play the rest of the year, I'm sure Doyle will be handy enough for the Redlegs.

Again, still glad we chose "My Name Is Earl" over him. Hopefully big Earl can go on to add his name to the list of great Doggies premiership ruckman of years gone by...

Shaw looks a good ruckman so Central have done well. Early days though. I feel overall the quality of Ruckman in the competition has dropped. Lindsay was always the benchmark and while there are still some good players I feel it has averaged out a bit. Could be wrong though.

A lot of clubs were after Doyle and I don't really care if he was asking over the odds or not, I am glad we still got him. It's a risk but everyone knows that, I am just happy my club is in a position to take a risk which we haven't been able to do in previous years.

No one at Norwood would have expected him to be playing every game but he if he can play say 12 games and contribute in most of them then it was worth the risk. Ruckman are so hard to find as we all know and if you are going to roll the dice on a player it may as well be a ruckman. Tyrell and Cockshell haven't been our worst players the last two weeks, granted not match winners.

I have to say so far I have been impressed by Davis although I had fairly low expectations, again early days and I don't think he will be a star but he hasn't been our worst player.

If it was 2005 - 07 he would have got his demands at South and we'd have been burnt again......
