Is this just for Pre Season games or is it for Premiership season as well?

If it is for the Premiership Season in Juniors you wouldn't want to get the bottom side on an extremely hot day as it makes for a short game.

It applies to the regular season as well.

I clearly remember it from an early round match between North and West at Prossie. Credit to the players for making it through the game - I nearly fainted on my way home, and I sat under a tree all day!

yep it was damn hot that day, thats the only game ive been to where its been enforced

I would have thought that anything over 32 deg should be have the maximum breaks.

The heat policy was enforced at two Central's games last year. Unfortunatley there are no trees at Noarlunga and it was too hot under the verandah.

I understand Seniors play by these rules during the Premiership Season but do the Juniors? You would be spitting if you were playing the bottom side and had your game reduced in time could affect your percentage and keep you out of finals at the end of the season.
I know you have to have the policy but I think shortning games is a bit rough.

8 "quarters" would be the norm in Darwin if you played by those rules - no interchange - for the umpires,

True story we were umpiring a game at Gardens #2 (opposite the casino in Darwin) a couple of years ago in the middle of the day (reserves game), we were wetting thew whistle at quarter time under one of the trees and these tourists came up and asked if they could take our photo? We said yeah no worries but why? They replied, "We're from Victoria, no one would believe if they said they played footy up here in this weather unless we take a photo!!

Election day 2004, I did 11.5 km (I wore one of those GPS units all the AFL clubs have) umpiring a 2's game in 34 deg heat 60 % humidity, no clouds 12-2 pm - stinking hot, I asked myself the question is it worth it??
