Some names from the trial vs North who are new recruits for Sturt;

Mitch Andrews - former Port player, played a league game for them in 2004, any wharfie have any info on this player? a tall backman by the sounds of it
Scott Peterson - former north underage player, ruckman; drebin, wedge? any info?
? Childs - not sure where he is from nor what type of player, maybe a midfielder

any info on these guys would be much appreciated, got good reviews from the trial last week.

Iif it the same Scott Petersen - he is an honest trier but struggled in the ressies at North in the recent "dark" years. I wouldn't be getting too excited.

Anyone know how the transfer fee is set? The Staples issue is an interesting one.

Much like Shaun Gatto struggled with us at Sturt?

Could well be the case MST. Re Staples - North only asked for the amount the SANFL set under the transfer criteria - Norwood wanted to pay less so stale mate and I think Norwood lost interest. I think you will find that Peterson would have been clealred for the absolute minimum.

Played three matches at Full Back for the seniors in 2004. Was at the Magpies for a long time...something like 4-5 years. Went through all the juniors (23 U17s games, 39 U19 games).

At 189cm and 85kg hes probably a little under sized for a main key defensive post...not very strong either. More a pacey defender similar to an Eichner. Just couldnt get out of the reserves. Played over 50 reserves games over the past three-four years.

Played up forward for the Under 19s kicking 72 goals in 39 games.

Reasonable depth player and a good reserves defender. Honestly dont think he will ever make a regular Senior footballer but thats just my opinion.

Should SANFL clubs insist on a transfer fee if a player is told he is no longer required?

Staples was a required player on the senior list but it was clear that after not playing any league last year he had even less chance this year so he wasn't stopped from looking elsewhere. North have been "victims" of having to pay the set odds in the past for fringe league players plus the big odds on players like O'Hara and Howard so why should we not get what a player is worth according to the ranking scale the SANFL use.

For what it is worth I was sorry to see him go as he played some good games in the past in the A's and looked like a tough hard at it HB flanker. He has battled injuries over the past 2 years and that was ultimately what cost him at League level as he couldn't quite get fit enough and lose some of those extra pounds. Good luck to him where ever he ends up.

If Peterson might turn out like Gatto, couldnt make 1 club but made it at another is there a chance Macca19 Andrews might be a Matthew Smith who could make it Port but was very good for us :roll:

well, we can use more depth but the writing is on the walls, we need extra talls and badly, ones that CAN make an immediate impact at league level :(

Well blueboy - we all know why Atkinson left North and McDermott (much to the disgust of all North supporters) basically drove Squire away with one of the worst assessments a coach has made in SANFL history - telling Squire he was nothing but a half fwd flanker and that's where he would play - not on the ball or in the centre . Good call McDermott - YOU WANKER!
