abc tv games

should the abc in conjunction with the sanfl have the power to change the programming of tv games to broadcast the game 'on paper' that is the match of the day ?

this week they are telecasting the west v eagles match & with all due respect to these clubs, this game doesn't compare to the sturt v glenelg game, surely as an advertisement of the league & the higher attendance (albeit on one half of the ground) that this should be the tv game & this should happen every week,

ie monday you decide which game is the tv game not 4 weeks in advance

what do you guys think ?

If the SANFL has that power it could change it every week so that the match of the day featuring the higher ranking clubs were on, meaning the same clubs would probably be on tv each week. West hasn't had a game on tv so far i dont think, they deserve a chance to be shown.

Probably what needs to be done is for there to be more thought into which matches are televised at the start of the season when this is determined.

I have no objections as regards to which game should be on TV, but I think that the ABC endeavours to cover at least one game at every ground.

Channel 9 should be allowed to telecast one game as well every week...but that of course could never happen. ;)

This topic has been done to death. The ABC havre a commitment to play a fair share of games at all venues and all of clubs. I do however think the Glenelg v Sturt would be a better tv game though - it's also our 3rd televised game in 5 weeks as well - I'm presuming we won't be on tv for a while after this week.

Personal thoughts only;
- Currently ABCTV decided broadcast allocation in 4 week blocks
- Once decided then the Radio Allocation is done.
- Early on ABCTV appear to cover special event games (ie Jacks back at Alberton & West 50 years @ Richmond).
- I guess having covered all teams early this gives some scope for focussing on the match of the day later in the season.

If people are genuinely interested in the Sturt v Glenelg game, maybe they should hop in their cars and drive to the oval. All clubs deserve equal chance to advertise their brand on television and that is the way it should be.

i disagree.

we should be advertising the best game available.there is a *blockbuster* game now every week and should be televised to show what its like to be at our *blockbuster* games.

adding to that we should promote every telecast game wherever possible.

its not like where gunna miss out on the crowd telecasting the best game, 95% + of us go because we love our league.

i am one that will be at unley but i'm talking about those that might flick it on & see a bigger crowd, a loud atmosphere & probably a better standard & think i might go & watch a game live next week where as at richmond this week there wont be many people & they'll be spreadout around the ground which detracts from the atmosphere, i'm also saying promote the sanfl with the best game (on paper) every week

Am I the only person here who doesnt rate the Glenelg v Sturt game as a blockbuster? Sturt by 13 goals.

That would only be appropriate though, given their professionalism and appropriateness.

Seeing I go every week it doesn't bother me one way or other.
But what happens to the lower teams ?
So they never get on the TV never get better stay down the bottom ? Or do they all play games on friday nights at norwood oval ?
But seeing the EAGLES have been on so many times perhaps another game should get a chance.

Given it's the ABC and we all pay for it (well, all of us who work), I reckon they've got to be fair and show an even spread of games for each club.

If you really want to see your team play, get to the ground and pay your $9.00...

Its better at the ground than watching it on the tv .

That's what really craps me off, their lack of consistency, in one of the years when North were crap they were shown on TV once for the entire year despite playing most games on Saturday afternoons.
Now we're not crap we get this "we're showing every team equally" crapola, they can't have their cake and eat it too.

Ideally from a competitions point of view the games involving the higher clubs would be best to show, I know a hell of a lot of people that don't go to SANFL games but flick onto the ABC on Saturday afternoons to have a quick look. If they had better games to watch and it was presented from the outer as opposed to the Grandstand side they might think about attending live as it looks better.

Imagine when Sturt were average 2 seasons ago and they showed a game involving Sturt and South and showed the game frome the grandstand side of Unley showing the scoreboard attendant only on the wing, if you weren't a regular SANFL goer you'd wonder WTF anyone was doing going to watch that rubbish.
Its a pity the Friday night Norwood games can't be replayed instead, great atmosphere at most games.

In relation to the 2 games this saturday, why have the SANFL programmed 2 games head to head with the Crows live on TV. Surely to maximise attendances one of the games should have been on sunday ?
