Unfairly dismissed??? Four years as Coach, three of them outside the top 5, the final season finishing in 8th position and just about every decent player wanting to leave the club?? I think South should sue Pyman, not the other way around.

It goes without saying that the club should defend this vigorously,

Providing they are not trying to defend the indefensible b&W.

Taking all the emotion out of it, pymans laywers will be looking at only one thing. Did the club follow legal disciplinary procedures. If not they are stuffed and he will claim loss of earnings for the time he is likely to be out of "work", no doubt the strees caused and as he is in the public eye, no doubt some damage to his character etc.

Best result for all parties to settle out of court otherwise it's lawyers in love and they will always be eventual winners.

Sad thing is that I think that Pyman is rightly entitled to it and the club should have to make a substantial payment.

Clearly I dont have all the details of it to quote from, yet my understanding is that he had another year of a contract to serve and was sacked mid season, so I cant see why 18 months worth of wages and endorsements would not have been paid out by now if that is what this is all about?

The report that Kevin Morris undertook of the club stated quite clearly that the club whiteanted the coach to try and stay on the side of the playing group (as has been usual in the past aka John Reid and others). So the club should put up and cop it on the chin IMO.

Exhibit A perhaps?

While I agree with sojourner that on the face of it, the club should pay out his contract because they cut short his contract. I do believe that if the club is to pay out $107k to anyone for anything, they should do their best to minimise the amount/damage if the are able. After all the lawyers fees will no doubt come from a sponsors pocket.

Surely Mike would lend South the lawyers from the Premiers offfice?

It does seem cut and dried on the surface, but more than likely there are some factors of the contract that were not lived up to by Pyman - perhaps some performance clauses, or something more obscure perhaps. This is what the sticking point would be over.

I wonder if Justice Margaret Nyland (a south tragic) will preside on this case.?

It's pretty clear cut. The guy had a contract for 2008 and they haven't paid him a cent since August 2007. Whether he was doing well at his job or well liked or whatever, a contract is a contract and South will have to pay the piper.
What's astonishing is that they have so far failed to do so.

Thats not what this is about though. Pyman doesnt think he should have lost the job. It doesnt say anywhere in the article he is complaining about not being paid.

I have some sympathy with Pyman as I feel that the club never really tried to prevent the whiteanting that evidently took place and thus made his position untenable. The club has come out and endorsed the Kevin Morris report which stated that 'misinformation' was fed to the players which the club didin't do anything about and that the club subsequently sided with the players. Whether he was a good coach or not isn't really the issue, if he was put in a position whereby he couldn't effectively coach then I think he has a case. The club made a mess of it, letting the players dictate terms and therfore he probably deserves some sort of compensation.

Having said all that, I hope it can be settled out of court so the club doesn't get dragged into a public court case. I just hope some lessons have been learnt, with Cahill at the helm they seem to have been learnt for now......

I hope so too, yet we will no doubt see if we have a run of losses I suppose, depending on how "mature" the club is about that, it will be then that we see if anything has changed!
