Thanks for the pics Wedgie...
Reading the budget last night at the Parade, and looking at the names of the listed players
made for some interesting names and guesses of the origins...
Onya girls !!

They should have video taped it or got closer photos than I did, an absolutely fantastic advert for our game, imagine the AFL using it as part of their "gimme that gimme that" commercial proudly declaring its the game for all people!
Also I failed to thank the girls themselves, their enthusiasm and the fun they had was a true joy to behold.

Which is first point of call for refugees with little/no previous schooling apparently. It was great to see.

Great pictures Wedgie...always good to see the youngsters having a go but even better to see that gender, race, colour and creed can be set aside. Also good to see that cultural requirements such as headdress and covering of arms and legs can be accomodated. Well done to all involved and long may it continue and grow.

Good topic wedgie.
I think Westies have had some involvement with the sudanese youth in their area. I think I've seen one or two of them running drinks etc.

Not at all surprised...they're just kids. Bet there are plenty of much older players who have/could behave like that too

Great stuff, but I don't think they were all refugees... Isn't that Byron Pickett?

i think through the month of May and June there will be some selected games where the mini-league will be played by the youth girls, it has been organised by Bridget from the SANFL.

They were great, good on you Wedgie for getting those pictures. Most entertaining at half time. As with the African boys, it's interesting to see what the future of our game will be.

Great to see the league is playing a role in supporting some recent refugees.
Sport is one way to narrow the cultural divide, in fact it's vital.
the movement of sizeable Sudanese numbers here hasn't been very positive in some respects, for either Sudanese or Australian resident.
But the future can be brighter with initiatives like this.
